YOU CAN ALSO BUY SUB SONIC .22 ammo.
She told deputies she started feeding a family of raccoons decades ago and it was fine until about six weeks earlier, when the number showing up went from a handful to around 100.
More powerful than most air guns as well. 33 grains at 740 fps. That is 40 foot-lbs of energy, a very powerful airgun.
I feed them peanuts. There’s probably 3 different families that show up with 5-7 kids. They seem to stay on the roof until I put out the food around 2am and then you hear them making it down the wall to the dinner table. Haven’t seen any raccoons for the last week or so. The backyard park has become overgrown as we’ve gotten older and stopped keeping after the paths. Expect most of them live somewhere in it. Wondering if they’re settling to their winter nap. Don’t expect to ever see 100. Too much competition for the snacks from a groundhog, possum and skunks. They go thru about 80 lbs a month.

Not even worth skinning and fleshing.
It was fun when one could make money trapping.

Prevention
Eggs passed in raccoon feces are not immediately infectious. In the environment, eggs take 2 – 4 weeks to become infectious. If raccoons have set up a den or a latrine (places where raccoons defecate) in your yard, raccoon feces and material contaminated with raccoon feces should be removed carefully and burned, buried, or sent to a landfill. Care should be taken to avoid contaminating hands and clothes. Treat decks, patios, and other surfaces with boiling water or a propane flame-gun (exercise proper precautions). Prompt removal and destruction of raccoon feces before the eggs become infectious will reduce risk for exposure and possible infection.
Do not keep, feed, or adopt wild animals, including raccoons, as pets.
Washing your hands after working or playing outdoors is good practice for preventing a number of diseases.

Treatment
A healthcare provider can discuss treatment options with you. No drug has been found to be completely effective against racoon roundworm in people. Albendazole, a broad spectrum anthelmintic, has been recommended for specific cases.
Early treatment might reduce serious damage caused by the infection. If you suspect you may have ingested raccoon feces, seek immediate medical attention.
****I have something that I assume is a Fox dropping scat in my yard. (Lots of animal fur and berry seeds in the scat.) I have been disposing of the scat in yard waste bags, but I should approach this as hazardous raccoon scat.
If they have the will to do it, this is actually a great opportunity for the lady's county to do a mass elimination of a destructive pest. They could lure them all into a fenced feeding area and turn the mess over to some trappers. (I will not suggest that they hire crews of Haitians for their Animal Control efforts.)
Wonderful dogs. We inherited my FIL’s, but had to re-home him, as we have multiple dogs already and don’t have the land he needed to roam. Wish we could have kept him.
A very good friend of mine soothed his animal-loving wife by going to live-catch rat traps. He'd do 'em in with a .22 short with her in the house and she never knew the difference.
So beautiful. I miss our JJ.
There is an allegory here which is too obvious to go into.
We fed five feral cats in 2011. Had them fixed. Brought them indoors. Can’t imagine life without them. We still have three, and there are holes in my heart for those that we lost.
No others ever showed up.
The 911 operator was not quite sure what the woman was saying.
“What do you mean the coons are out to get you? Oh. You said RAcoons. I see”
Then fire at will.
We feed the deer at our rural compound. When we show up they gather on the ridge and within 3-4 minutes of putting the corn out we have 5-7 deer at the feed pile. They pretty much just live on our property now.
We need a recipe thread for game
I fed a tiny feral black cat I found in a dumpster while walking my dog back in 2013. She followed us home and took up residence in my walled-in patio. She often brought me pigeons, which are such a nuisance bird around here. She had already had her ear snipped by someone. One day she brought home a very thin 6-week old kitten … a true beauty with blue eyes, cream colored fur and gray points. I fed her also, took her in to be spayed and ear-notched. She would go limp when I picked her up, so I think she had Ragdoll breeding. About a Year after, someone hired a guy to supposedly do TNR in the neighborhood. One of my neighbors saw her in one of the traps. I contacted the guy and asked what happened to the cat and he lied to me—something about the cat scratched him and escaped. I think the guy stole that beautiful cat! She would have returned home otherwise. Black kitty stayed with me until 2022, when she passed away. She was such a sweet patio fixture. I miss her, but have no plans to feed any other ferals. Too much commitment.
