Panera Bread has closed its sole location in downtown Denver after 10 years.
The St. Louis-based chain’s store at the corner of Market Street and the 16th Street Mall was closed as of Thursday morning.
“We’ll miss serving you from this bakery cafe,” notices posted on the doors read.
The company didn’t respond when asked the reason for the closure.
Restaurants and retailers along the 16th Street Mall have been struggling amidst renovations to the pedestrian and transit corridor. But Panera had made it through that — its block was one of the first to reopen.
The store sits at the base of the 10-story 16M building, which features both office space on floors two through six and apartments on the four floors above that. Panera moved in once the building was completed in 2014.

16th Street mall is very diverse. What went wrong?
Thinking people know that their non-response was a response.
“We’ll miss serving you from this bakery cafe,”
How about: “We’ll miss seeing you, and Thank You. It’s been our privilege and pleasure to have served you for over XX years.”
Stop with the GD ‘Branding” nonsense.
The photo accompanying the article is a tight shot looking in the front entrance of the establishment, which is rather uninformative given that by pulling back a few feet the photographer would have revealed a bum sleeping in his own urine at the entrance, and the actual reason for the closure.
Hunter S. Thompson ran for the position of Sheriff of Pitkin County, Colorado, including Aspen, in 1970 and lost. He later said “It was the liberals. The liberals did me in.”
From bio: Thompson was a registered member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) for many years. He believed firmly in the Second Amendment and owned an extensive collection of firearms. Asked how many he owned he said “7 or 8, no probably 10 shotguns. Every single one of them top quality.”

Buttloads o’ looters, perhaps?
For any place suffering from looting, just hire the local Venezuelans.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
and - Smotherman busted for blowing campaign funds on hair and makeup (Democrat running for the district 6 seat in southwest Colorado)..

Guess they took Bob Seger’s advice.
I was single at the time, no kids. Had a great job and a great little studio apartment on 20th and Sherman. Paid $325/mo. I lived at bars and restaurants every night!
It was a great place to live at the time. Lots of cool people around my age but not really gentrified. A bunch of cheap bars and places to eat. Great downtown vibe.
It's all gone now. Those cheap dive bars have all been shuttered and there's no way in hell you're renting a studio apartment (big studio with high ceilings in a 100 year old building) for $325/mo.
“Gee, I wonder why. Stay outta Denver unless you like junkies and insane street people.”
Along with woke policies and voters! 😁
I am guessing the local DOT was revamping access & egress & it disrupted the patterns of pedestrian usage.
Such actions RARELY are discussed in advance with the local shopkeepers. PEDESTRIAN USAGE is given priority & PARKING is eliminated. People will not walk any distance to get to a business.
Many years ago that area was where the winos hung out.
We used to cruise 16th Street back in the day. Yes, it was a real street once.
And stay out of Panera shops anywhere unless you like plain ass sandwiches. I think Panera sucks! It's like having a stoned hippie slapping a bland sandwich together for you.
