The Chrysler Building, a long-admired gem of New York City’s skyline, could be the latest victim of the nationwide office collapse.

The lease between Cooper Union, which owns the land on which the building sits, and RFR Holding was terminated last week, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Cooper Union, a private college in the city, told the Journal that RFR Holding had not paid its rent since May and owed it $21 million.

“As a result of their nonpayment, they are in default of the ground lease agreement,” John Ruth, Cooper Union’s vice president of finance, said in a statement shared with Business Insider. A termination notice was sent on September 13 and went into effect on September 27, the statement said. …

Give a conservative a pile of bricks and you get a city. Give a liberal a city and you get a pile of bricks.

An incredible building. Worth taking a tour, if you can get one.

Art deco is a glorious style, and it is one of the finest examples

Cooper Union is tuition free for students who are admitted. It has no dormitory facilities, most of the students are New York City residents. It has higher average SAT scores than MIT. My wife used to work at Digital Equipment Corporation. She showed me the resume of one of their applicants and wanted to know why he was asking for such a high salary. (Yeah, she shouldn’t have dun it.) When I informed her of the academic reputation of CU she understood.

Damned shame the damage the Democrats have done to New York City and its once-fine institutions.

Office buildings can be victims? The Chrysler building collapsed?

Never mind. The headline writer appears to be retarded.

BTW, Cooper Union has cylindrical elevators. Peter Cooper knew that elevators were coming, so the architect left shafts for them. No one knew what they would look like. He guessed wrong.

Another question. Does Cooper’s Union own just the land or the land and the building? If it’s just the land, I imagine they could just move the building somewhere else, right? It would be like moving a double wide.

Built at the peak of the “roaring ‘20’s” - just before the inevitable collapse of the frenzied stock market - as so much of America’s glorious architecture was.

In other words, “glorious” buildings are usually the result of unsustainably easy money.

Apparently he didn’t guess wrong, if the cylindrical shafts in the CU building have cylindrical elevators.

A grabby headline

They’d better not collapse it

My grandfather was on the crew that put the gargoyles up

Jackie O herself - well, as part of a team I imagine- saved Grand Central Station from being torn down and redone into some stupid assed structure like the disgusting, low ceilings urinal Penn station

Why would anyone want cylindrical elevators?

That’s as dumb as wanting a round pizza box.

“...office collapse...”

Poor choice of words with respect to office towers situated on the island of Manhattan.

Just another case of Rush was right. When they first started shutting down offices in 2020 due to Covid, he predicted this. Why maintain expensive offices in desirable locations when you quickly realize most work can be done remotely from home. Sure, you will still need some office space for certain business functions, like receiving mail, HR/payroll and other similar things almost every other job can work from home five days a week.

RFR Holding was last seen petitioning the Biden White House to classify the debt as a student loan which was immediately forgiven.
