Great analysis by Samo Burja about declining global fertility rates.
Brainstorming some ideas that are compatible with Christianity: (note many of these are not compatible with the US Constitution)
1. Don’t let people vote when they reach 70 years old
2. Any welfare state that is available ceases to be available to seniors
3. Allow marriages without parental permission at the age of 16 (essentially 16 would become the legal age of adulthood)
4. Only allow people with dependent children the right to vote
5. massive tax reductions for those with a large number of children
6. make abortion illegal
7. implement family voting (the head of the household gets the same number of votes as the number of dependent children he has plus one as he votes on behalf of his wife)
8. Lump sum payment per child from the state
Here I am thinking long term and many nations will try a variety of things to keep their population from collapsing. Others will allow the population to collapse and paint it as a good thing as it reduces climate change or some other such nonsense.

birth control is much of the problem…but how will people stop being motivated to use it? Samo says that the underlying causes of low fertility are not well known. He states that even the religious nations are going to below replacement fertility.

The declining fertility rate in China is so bad I’m expecting any day now that the Chi-Coms will be forcing men and women to get married and have children.

None of this matters without a moral foundation. And we are very far from that.

Get rid of all unconstitutional feral government agencies and their regulations and let the economy grow at its full potential.
People will make babies when they feel prosperous enough to take care of them adequately.
Everything government touches turns to excrement. They should NEVER be involved in anything connected to having and raising children. Ever.

I 100% agree that reducing government is a great thing…I 100% disagree that it is clear that would solve this fertility issue.

This is why I brainstormed fertility solutions compatible with Christianity. Totalitarian solutions will include forced reproduction, forced egg harvesting, etc.

None of these would move the needle. The fundamental problem is that people don't _want_ children, because they are indoctrinated into an infantile worldview of seeking instant pleasure and gratification rather than deeper, long-term joy at seeing the fruit of their labors flourish in the form of well-raised children. Who wants to spend thousands on diapers and food for the kiddos when it could be spent on jet skis and vacations to Acapulco?
The solution involves restoring and teaching a Judeo-Christian worldview and fencing out the toxic humanist worldview that is now setting the stage (if Christ does not return) for a civilization-ending population collapse akin to the dark ages that ended the Roman Empire. Back then the western Empire saw cities become ghost towns with only 5-10% of their peak population, even before the barbarian invaders hit. The invaders were pushing in on an undefended door to an empty house.
To: EnderWiggin1970
I am convinced that Christian values are essential…but I am not convinced that fertility issues will be solved by solely Christian values. I think that unique government structures and solutions will be shown to work in some smaller nations…these successful techniques will then spread as other nations see their success.

I was...but no longer. Now I’m Catholic.
To: Sacajaweau
I am Catholic too…strictly following Catholicism solves fertility problem…the issue is that very few follow it strictly.
Glad that you stopped being a Malthusian as those people are nothing but trouble.

Like I said...this is a garbage thread.
To: impimp
I’ve been advocating family voting for some time.
I think it’s the best solution, as it give weight to the voices of all citizens equally.
To: Sacajaweau
I am not in anybody else’s bedroom…i have no idea why you oppose the thread, or potentially even the idea of fertility rate based threads.

Everyone should read Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s 1978 address to Harvard Grads
He said (in sum): yes, marxism is terrible, and it is discredited everywhere, but don’t congratulate yourselves, Westerners. You are just as post-modern, materialist, consumerist, and even more spiritually flaccid than your Soviet counterparts.
