“A Charleston woman was named after it”
Lemme guess - they named her “Hurricane.”
That’s 66 years ago.
OP Comment: “Hurricane Helene (1958) became a hurricane on Sept.24th. and reached category 4 strength on Sept. 26. ... “
Zero. It reached category 4 strength on the 27th.
Btt
The hurricane name go by the alphabet, so Helene is 8the hurricane in the season. Since season starts every year the same, the 8th hurricane should come pretty close to the same date, as in this case.
But, what is shows, that this season is not really that exceptional.
In another world, the global warning is a hoax!
There are many interesting studies, which show that the global warming does not affect Hurricanes. It may actually hinder them!
More damage is caused because there are more buildings and residents to be affected, and bigger hurricane counts is because we have the tools to observe more of them.
Many hurricanes never make it to the shores, and in the old times, the may not be observed and counted. Now, we can see them and count them!
That is the main reason for “increased hurricane activity”, not the global warming.
They cycle through the same names every 6 years. If a storm is particularly bad, the name is retired and replaced.
Hmmm....would they ever retire a name like Hurricane Delta?
Why did they skip over Q, U, X, Y, Z?
What’s wrong with Quentin, Ursula, Xiaoping, Yolanda, Zelda?
