Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #23
AC’s iTunes Directory | 9/27/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 09/27/2024 10:10:00 AM PDT by Alberta's Child

Day #23 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the course of several months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so this will probably be done by late October.

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making a contribution for the current AND next quarterly fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

My wife hates The Boss. I guess I enjoyed some of his music in the 1980s. But don’t get a chance to listen to him much. Especially if my wife is around. He’s on several of my Spotify playlists but if she’s with me she always make me skip the track ;-)

Pinging to those from the previous threads. Obscure song from Bruce Springsteen's second album, The Wild, the Innocent & The E Street Shuffle. The E Street Band with an orchestra sound behind it is unusual, to say the least. Hate his politics, but this is a masterpiece.

Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!

YouTube comment makes an interesting point:

This album was released in 73 that would've made Bruce about 24. So he had to have written this song when he was like 22 or 23. How does a kid of that age write something like this?

Absolutely beautiful. I was lucky enough to see him 3 or 4 times. Did not care for born in the USA or anything after that. His concerts were amazing.

Crazy Janie and her mission man, Killer Joe, Wild Billy, G-man and Hazy Davey agree.

I think The River was probably his last good album.

I had “The River” vinyl album in college. I think it was his last good album as well. “New York City Serenade” is an interesting song that I have not paid attention to. I used to listen to Spingsteen more before he came out as a scumbag communist. My favorites were songs that had Clarence Clemmons with a long sax solo. My favorites were probably “Jungleland” and “Thunder Road”. Those bring back memories of driving to see the 12 Hours of Sebring car race in the very early morning on long back roads with no houses or intersections. I had a Porsche Turbo, and had the sound cranked up, and that is probably all I should say about that. They were great driving songs.

For thirty years I've been waiting for him to pass that stone.
