I’ve observed that long-haired cats are fond of sleeping on grills and wire mesh. I think they like the air circulation.
Years ago, I threw a paper bag in the fireplace, thinking there might be coals enough left to ignite it. A couple if hours later, I heard the bag move. The cat was sleeping in it.
