An Arizona man has been caught crawling past detention officers to allegedly rape a female inmate.
Justin Avery, 29, was arrested on April 12 after he was accused of assaulting five different women near Arizona State's Tempe campus.
Five days after his arrest Avery is accused of attempting to assault a woman inmate at Maricopa County Jail Intake Transfer and Release Center.
Avery was caught on video - obtained by ABC15 Arizona on September 17 - crawling near a detention officer's desk to avoid detection.
The facility is separated into two sides based on gender and the serial assaulter was somehow able to crawl to the female side undetected.
The man then got behind a sleeping woman and started lowering his pants.
Another woman who was watching the scene unfold told Avery to get off her but Avery shushed her.
Fortunately, this sound alerted officers to his intentions and they apprehended him.
Avery told officers in his holding cell that he was 'a spider drawn to the woman's physical appearance' and that he intended to rape her, ABC15 Arizona reported.
The inmate now faces an additional sexual assault charge on top of the existing kidnapping and aggravated assault charges.
When Avery was arrested on April 11, he was accused of assaulting two women near Arizona State's campus but was released the next day.

It’s one thing to crawl past the desk but was the sleeping woman in a cell? Surely she wasn’t out of the cell for exercise or something.
So how did he get into the cell (I’m assuming that’s what happened?) I’m thinking gross incompetence or the guards were deliberately looking the other way.

If he had just identified as a woman he wouldn’t have needed to sneak in.
