We all have our go-to grocery store for everyday needs, and America has spoken about its all-time favorite of 2024.
Each year, USA Today releases its 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for various categories, including the best grocery stores in the U.S. Nominations are made by a panel of experts, and the 10Best editors select the finalists. Readers then get a chance to vote for their favorites, and this year, it may surprise you which grocer came in the lead.
Best Grocery Store in the U.S. in 2024 Hy-Vee was voted the top grocery store in America in 2024 by USA Today readers. This employee-owned chain is predominately found in the Midwest with over 280 stores, but it is best known for providing "a helpful smile in every aisle.”
According to USA Today, the store “works with farmers to provide locally grown fruits and vegetables, and many of the locations offer food counters with colossal salad bars and items like meatloaf, Asian food, pizza, and fried chicken,” which could be why this is such a popular choice among shoppers today.
While Hy-Vee took the top spot, here's a look at the full list.

Indeed. Love the coffee
Also love Fareway, especially for meats from the meat service counter.
Not the one near me. Low prices and good selection.
Sprouts is more expensive but great produce.
I do the bulk of my shopping at Publix.
Years ago I worked in that business. How they make it work with pennies for profits I’ll never know. Margins are so slim.
Here in Northern California is there’s only Trader Joes off this list. And they’re overrated IMO
Never heard of it.
In Texas it’s HEB. Nothing else matters.
Not a single one of those in this 350,000 metro market, I guess we’re deprived. But I’m fine with WinCo and Walmart and occasionally Yoke’s Fresh Market..
“H.E.B rules“
Always did.
I really like their selection and quality.
However, a member of the family that owns it has decided to go full woke and start funding drag shows and drag story times.
We go to Kroger now, and put up with the drop in quality.
“Aldi is owned by the same German company that owns Trader Joe’s.”
I never heard that Trader Joe’s is owned by a German company. Is that true?
Fred Meyer/Kroger ok too.
“Trader Joe’s is owned by Aldi Nord, a German private company that is part of the Aldi Group”
Trader Joe’s sucks. IMO
I like Publix, Wegmans, Ingles.
Take a look at post 26.
It seems to have more detailed information.
Maybe more accurate to say owned by the same German family.
The bulk of our grocery shopping is at the Commissary at Quantico but we spend a lot of money at the Wegmans down in Fredericksburg, VA. We love Wegmans.
A Publix opened up about four miles from us but it is nothing compared to Wegmans. We had to make a trip to Texas last month so we stopped at a HEB to see if it was as good as people say. The one we stopped at in Odessa was just another dirty grocery store. It was very busy but we were not impressed. We are withholding judgement as it was an older store and if we get back to Texas we will try to get to a newer HEB to see if it is better.
There’s a Yokes off I-90 near Post Falls, but I’ve never stopped there.
Our local Target did some major remodeling the past 9 months and added a huge grocery section. It’s amazing that Wal-Mart and now Target added such big grocery sections when you consider the low margins on food.
