Brett Favre says he has Parkinson’s

Brett Favre revealed that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in a congressional hearing on welfare accountability Tuesday.

Favre testified at the hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee in the wake of allegations he was part of a scheme to use Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) state funds for personal projects.

The quarterback told lawmakers that the scandal has hurt him in various ways, and suggested his Parkinson’s diagnosis was caused by concussions during his playing career.

“Sadly, I also lost my investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others. As I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me — I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s — this is also a cause dear to my heart,” he said.

Yes, L-DOPA itself gradually damages serotonergic neurons that product dopamine, and only a small amount of L-DOPA crosses the blood-brain barrier to begin with.

Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate that. And I’m glad the list of symptoms is useful in watching out for your own family members.

I wonder if he could have CTE? There’s been a lot of former football players who developed that, and yes, it’s caused by the roughness of the game.

That’s very sad. Brett Favre was a great quarterback, and is a good man. Some people think that I look like him. And he’s only 54—middle-aged by today’s standards.

He is a Catholic Christian and a Trump supporter.

Research and new treatments for Parkinson’s are ongoing, and he will hopefully benefit from them. Lord have Mercy!

Joe Namath says he used hyperbaric oxygen treatments and got his brain back.

It is 99.9% likely that he has CTE. The danger is not from a couple of big concussions that knock you out but rather all the little hits your head absorbs in a game.

So in other words, Favre has thousands of "concussions".

He probably feels like he's 80.

Football and concussions are about leftist politics. That's why no one ever asks what role Brett's admitted alcohol and opioid abuse played.

Yes. Of course.

But in this case, it's probably due to CTE. We know that there's a clear link to CTE from football players.

Aaron Hernandez suffered from CTE. And he was only 27.

My father was dx’d with Parkinson’s Disease at around age 90. I suspect that he actually had a closely related condition called Multi System Atrophy, and he died of complications from it at 98.

MSA makes the autonomic nervous system start shutting down. At the end his breathing, his blood pressure, his digestion were all ceasing to work properly. But his mind was clear, he had always been a very intelligent man.

The final week, maybe two, hospice ceased feeding him. There was no point, his body had lost the ability to process food. They gave him water, and morphine to calm anxiety and panic.

How many hard blows to the helmet did the franchise player really receive versus what a prize fighter takes in a night?

Mike Tyson remains quite cogent.

Aaron Hernandez suffered from CTE. And he was only 27.

Which should mean he would have been punch drunk by 40?

Soccer players take lots of blows to the head. Why doesn't the media hype up CTE and soccer players?

Mike Tyson may be doing fine now. But if we were to operate on his brain, it'll show signs of CTE, I'm sure.

CTE cases in soccer players raise fresh questions about safety of heading the ball

It appears that there is a risk to CTE if you head the ball. So some soccer leagues are banning heading in their games.

The World Cup may ban heading in 20 years from now. We'll continue to gather data.

So sorry you had to go through that.

My dad got hospitalized at the end. I visited him at the hospital for a few days and then had to fly back across the country to go back to work. He passed away a few days after I last saw him in the hospital. I was always glad I saw him so close to the end, but saddened by not being there at the end.
