A North Carolina student has been found dead a day after she went missing while hiking a mountain in South Africa, authorities and her “devastated” family said Monday.
Brook Cheuvront, 20, was reported missing Saturday from Table Mountain in Cape Town — where she was studying — after she stopped responding to friends and couldn’t be located on a tracking app, a rep for SANPark, which manages the mountain, told CBS News.

I have close friends who spent 5 years working in SA in the 90s. They loved it but they were in a rural area. If they went to a city, a local black went with them to make sure they didn’t go to the wrong places by mistake. They said it was on a downward spiral even then and thought any white not gone by 2000 or certainly by 2005 was a playing with fire.

Stories like this are why I won’t go outside of the US. Euros are very carefree with their travel, but they are confined in a way we aren’t here in the US, for now.

South Africa used to be white ruled, but now dangerous for the whites who live there.
Why would anyone go hiking there alone, particularly a woman? It is probably dangerous for the slow, falls, etc. and the animals, must less the humans.
