The cost of living is up, prompting a growing number of Americans to flee big cities and opt for small-town life instead. A tiny, tight-knit community might seem like heaven to those who want a slower pace of life, but that doesn’t mean that smaller towns are sleepy, cultural wastelands. Many towns across the country offer the same top-notch amenities found in larger cities—they just come with a more laid-back, know-your-neighbors vibe at an affordable price tag.

Blogger Aiden Kearney pronounces his name “Carney.”

It takes all kinds, I guess.

“Prescott is not affordable anymore”

Without Californians, there’s no Costco, Trader Joes, In N’ Out, Kohls, one Cal Ranch, one Tractor Supply, at least one Walmart, etc. The list goes on and on.

Yep, that’s the same as pronunciation #1.

All north of the Mason Dixon Line. Suspect some bias behind this list.

Besides, my definition of “small town” wouldn’t include most of these places. Fort Payne, Alabama is a small town.

Baraboo is nice, very small. Pretty area. Unfortunately a liberal area.

“...“Kearney”
How do Nebraska locals pronounce that?...”

Rhymes with “hear me”.

Might be crime/coruption issues in the small southern towns.

How ironic that Baraboo is the town my grandparents felt they were lucky to have moved out of.

Great Falls is right next to our largest ICBM base.

No thanks.

It’s pronounced “Carney”. I grew up in Nebraska. Competed against them in athletics, and my brother graduated from college there. Anyone who states it’s pronounced any other way is simply incorrect.

Some current residents new to this country may be pronouncing it differently, as in the case of Kearny, NJ.

They’re pronouncing it so as to rhyme with “Bernie”. And nobody they talk to on a regular basis is contradicting them.

Oh, I’m sure it may be prounouced different elsewhere. That’s just how it’s pronounced in Nebraska by people from there.

How about Baltic Avenue? I heard that the property is cheap there.

You picked the one that no longer exists.

I take that back. I had heard a few years ago that it was slated for removal, but AI and Google Maps still have it listed. It actually intersects some great properties in the Red, Orange and Maroon groups.

Plenty of sane towns in Lanaster County, PA. Lancaster city is a s-hole but the surrounding smaller towns aren’t bad.

NO it is not on the same meridian (oops! a meridian is a line of longitiude) as the arctic circle.

Don't tell me that the article made that embarrassing blunder!

Instantly loses all legitimacy.

Regards,
