Cat [with microchip] lost in Yellowstone travels [with some help] 800 miles to reunite with owners after two months

For two months, a California couple was heartbroken, worrying about the whereabouts of their beloved cat after losing him in Yellowstone national park, a wilderness larger than some US states.

But as summer came to a close, so did their tragic story. Benny and Susanne Anguiano reunited with their lost feline Rayne Beau last month after an animal welfare group called to let them know their cat had been found in Roseville, California, about 800 miles (1,287km) from Yellowstone.

In early August, Rayne Beau’s microchip came in handy.

The couple received a message from Pet Watch, a pet-tracking service, indicating that their cat had been found in Roseville at the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A woman had discovered Rayne Beau alone in the street and brought him to the shelter.

Exactly how Rayne Beau travelled the 800 miles from Yellowstone to Roseville remains a mystery, but the couple said they hope sharing their story might prompt someone to come forward with any details.

Thankfully, kitty didn’t need to pass through Springfield.

It would be ‘funny’ if that couple had been trying to get rid of the cat, only to have him shipped right back into their lives from thousands of miles away!

My guess is the cat hid away in someone's camper.

there must be a way to reprogram the chip for that. it probably has an app.

FTA: "An estimated 10 MILLION dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the US every year, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association."

Well, I'll be damned! I had no idea that we had so many hungry Haitians in the USA.

The only thing the RFID chip contains is an ID number that is the primary key of a database containing contact information of the animal's owner, and it is only readable from a few inches away.

There's a song about that:

I almost lost a cat in Yellowstone. She got out of our car and ran under other cars to hide. She was so scared that she kept running away. Luckily, we managed to capture her.

My sister had a cat disappear and then reappear 5 years later , looking worse for wear. No idea what happened in the interim.

Sounds like it might have gotten itself home if someone hadn’t scooped it off the street and taken it to a shelter.

As someone noted, at least it managed to avoid Springfield.

So this wasn't some Incredible Journey or Homeward Bound Disney adventure.

BTW, how many people thought those stories were true when they were kids? I did.

But no. Fake, fake, fake, like everything else Disney does.

My 3 dogs and 1 cat are all chipped. However, you could not run them away even if you tried. Oddly, the cat is the boss and the dogs let her have her way with them. The only time they get into an argument is if both want to lay on me at the same time.
