The "journalism" is exceptionally idiotic. The octagon surrounding initials WAS once British. Today's' octagon surrounding initials is Chinese. Assembling it in Mexico makes it a Chinese-owned, Mexican assembled NOT British motorcar.
Don't give a darn about Chinese cars. Used to drive a lovely red MGB way back when. Now for me it's a lovely older diesel RAM, powered by Cummins.
Might I reccomend: Which Cars Are Still Made in Britain?
Weber used to sell carb kits so you could toss the terrible SU carbs. And you used to be able to get conversion brackets so you could get rid of the stupid lever shocks. I think AC Delco sold electric kits to replace the terrible starters and generators. But that was a long time ago.
Fix those things and Brit sports cars weren’t so bad. I had an MG Midget briefly once years ago. A really fun little car in the mountains. Too bad Brit cars were such shyt. I could go on for an hour with horror stories.
You did better than we did. I still remember trying to follow his directions for quickly double D shifting.
I kept losing it on a “hill” in Chicago that no one knew existed until I kept getting stuck on it. And it was great for racing because it took nothing to break the back end loose to corner faster.
After our divorce (he brought me flowers), I got a Fiat Spyder. Had a very stable backend. My current husband had a Corvette. We’d race on the California mountain roads. I’d get him on the curves, but he’d get me on the straightaways. Why we’re both still alive is beyond me.
“AC Delco alternator for a Chevy Chevette”
Ha, are those even available?....I remember the Chevette......we called ‘em shitvettes. Lol!
That thing was a piece of crap.
You gotta spend big bucks to get a British car that’s worth damn......by that time you could get something made elsewhere that’s better quality and cheaper.
Do you know why the British drink warm beer?
They have Lucas refrigerators.
I have a Tahiti blue 1974 Midget in mine and it’s a driver as well
Ignition can be replaced with GM on triumph cars. The GM unit will bolt right in
A Mazda Miata is the car they should have built.
My brother had a 71 Datsun 1600 Fairlady. It was the best “British” sports car of the 70s. It ran without trouble. Sweet little two seater.
Don’t know, I used all British Leyland parts for everything I have done, It is almost like new but dusty...
No, they’re really bad as well. Very luxurious, nice designs, but the mechanicals are HORRID. Still. After all these years.
But. Chinese? Made in Mexico?
No way, José.
Booker T comin’ back too?
BMW should bring back the spitfire.
Triumph-badged vehicles were produced by BL until 1984 when the Triumph marque was retired, where it remained dormant under the auspices of BL’s successor company Rover Group. The rights to the Triumph marque are currently owned by BMW, who purchased the Rover Group in 1994.
I had an orange (factory called it Tangerine) 1970 MG Midget. It was a good little car. Then later I had 1974 MG Midget in Tahitian blue and they had gone to a dual side draft carburetor and it was a real dud. I got rid of it and got a mustang.
I saved my money and my first car was a ‘70 MGB...I never had so much fun!
guess I just wanted that iconic to be the last still
MGBGT not good for normal size humans.
It was hard to get into - (but the MG-TD worse with the top up/side curtains on) but once I was in, it felt roomy. I am 5’10”, so I’m a “J. C. Penney’s medium”.
Neither one were good date cars, if you follow my drift.
The red car doesn’t have 5 mph bumpers, nor does it appear to meet pedestrian safety requirements.
