Undercover as a farm worker in Germany: ‘My hands are numb. No one knows when the shift will end’
The Guardian ^ | 18th September 2024 | Sasa Uhlova

Posted on 09/18/2024 4:55:19 AM PDT by Cronos

The organic farm shop is a paradise for wealthy Germans. Behind the scenes, we pick and chop vegetables until we’re on the point of collapse ... they guaranteed work for at least 10 hours a day and that I would be paid €6.20 (£5.27) an hour. I would have to pay the agency a fee of €200 and a one-off sum of €105 for my bed. I would buy and cook my own food. They also told me to bring boots and rubber gloves.

...

The contract I sign on about day three probably corresponds to the German labour code. But I receive two work report sheets. On one I write down the actual hours worked and on the other, the official sheet, I sign those that are recorded: a maximum of 10 hours of work a day, six days a week. I’d already heard about double reporting, but here they present it to me as a matter of course. No one explains what is going on. According to the official record, I might work until 4pm today, and there was no work at all on Sunday.

... One of the worst things about this job is that no one can tell you when the shift will end. “Please understand,” one of the women replied when I ask if we would get Sunday afternoon off, “that there are no working hours, there is no Monday to Friday. Here they just tell you to go to work, and you never know when it’s going to end.”

... Not only is the work physically demanding, but you are on your feet for 14 hours a day.

It’s strange how normal this weird existence seems after a while. Maybe that’s because by the evening, everyone is completely exhausted.

I agree...like 86 countries participate, (including all our pet ones) central and South American, Eastern Europe, South Africa, etc; everyone has to pass physical, vaccinated, they file taxes, AND THEY GO HOME EVERY YEAR!

Another day older and deeper in debt.
Saint Peter doncha call me `cause I can't go.

similar to German encampments during ww2

sheep can be conditioned.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it
is like the pretty, blue robin’s egg. Inside it is soft and
gooey but someday it will grow into something
wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard
blue shell. Police officers, soldiers and other warriors are
like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect
will grow into something wonderful. For now, though,
they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"There is a two tiered ag worker situation in US, you’ve got the H2A guest worker program that is expensive, restrictive, and in very high demand...so many people from all over vying for a work visa."

H-2A is rigged. It is supposed to be used to get Manual to do manual labor in the field, but in reality it is used to fill the skilled positions in ag/livestock, like a meat cutter in an abbatoir, and then the (cough cough Chinese) company holds his H-2A over his head so he doesn't jump to the abbatoir down the road.

My mother and her large family were traveling pickers until my grandfather finally became a share cropper.

If you want to see a fine movie about Americans and sharecropping during the Depression, watch The Southerner, it is better than The Grapes of Wrath.

I think you are wrong about the Mexican illegals, they tend to be parasitic on America, heavy drinkers and shady, somewhat lazy workers with a touch of the street hustler, their wives and girlfriends have children and collect welfare while the man doesn’t live there full time, everyone works under the table if they work, which the females rarely do, to game the taxes and the welfare system, they live outside the laws and the rules and maximize what they take from our generous and supportive culture, they sneaked in illegally with that intent.

People see them when they are working at physical jobs and think that is who they are, they do not see them on the days they don’t work because they are partying out or hungover and what they do when they aren’t working, and very few hang out with them or spend time in wetback bars interacting with them and seeing their natural state, and their knife culture.

In the USA it is the same with Mexican labor - the organic farms etc. would collapse without illegal migrants.

No they would just have to pay decent wages.

no foreigners = a lot less farm workers. Paying decent wage instead of 3rd word wages.

FIXED IT.

It would be ideal to get our own citizens to do these jobs, but in today’s society that simply will never happen as many of the younger generations simply do not want to work at all, even if the pay is very high.

You dont speak for me-get it?

Pay more . Get more domestic workers.

Our “heroic and majestic” small farmers are the biggest magnet of illegal and legal 3rd world immigration. I hope all your crops rot. We'd be better off importing food instead of stupid tick 3rd worlders working for the "small farmer" slave masters......

I wonder if something like “worker passports” with legalised support etc. would help?

The ones who just want to work would not have a risk of death from agents, and would be safeguarded.

He is mad at me for calling out his own globalist comment advocating for even more foreign invaders into America. He is loathsome. He actually call for more foreign worker on work visas as a “win-win” but we know it is not a win-win for Americans.

Again here is Cronos’ execrable comment:

So if the Department of labor cut out the red tape, more farms about participate in the H2A program?

That sounds like a win-win for everyone except consumers who would have to pay more. But I think it would be better.

My mother grew up near Grand Forks, ND and she would make extra money in the summer picking potatoes along with many others her age. Don’t tell me that Americans will not pick their own crops. You are just another disgusting globalist communist.

Being poor, or not liking where you live is no reason to expect those citizens of another country to make it better for you.

In the US, we should get rid of economic refugee status, protected status and all the other categories are just covers for nothing but invasion.

HMMM

My organic farm in California employs 7 white US citizens and is thriving.

They are well paid and love where they work, rarely do they quit.

Our produce is outstanding. Some customers drive over an hour to buy from us.
