Russia’s jamming of US-provided rocket systems complicates Ukraine’s war effort

Russia has been thwarting US-made mobile rocket systems in Ukraine more frequently in recent months, using electronic jammers to throw off its GPS guided targeting system to cause rockets to miss their targets, multiple people briefed on the matter told CNN.

Ukrainian military officials, with the US’ help, have had to come up with a variety of different workarounds as it continues to use the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) which has been perhaps the most revered and feared piece of weaponry in Ukraine’s fight.

The medium-range rocket systems were hailed as a game changer in the conflict and have played a key role since the moment they arrived in Ukraine last summer, including in last year’s offensive that allowed Ukraine to take back significant swaths of territory from Russia.

But in recent months, the systems have been rendered increasingly less effective by the Russians’ intensive blocking, five US, British and Ukrainian sources tell CNN, forcing US and Ukrainian officials to find ways to tweak the HIMARS’ software to counter the evolving Russian jamming efforts.

I had forgotten that a few analysts have said for several months now that Russia has been jamming the GPS of HIMARS used by the Ukraine. HIMARS are known to be sensitive to jamming. SO far, the Pentagon had limited the range (programming) of HIMARS given to Ukraine. The CNN article refers to them as medium range. Right now, the Ukraine is begging for permission to use the Long Range capabilities of HIMARS to strike deep within Russia. The Pentagon refuses, stating it would provoke war.

But, the medium range HIMARS are indeed sensitive to jamming and last year in May, CNN noted that they were of decreasing utility in Ukraine.

This current push to allow the Ukraine to use Long Range HIMARS is Public Relations, trying to goad Russia into acting defensively. Biden keeps saying he's just about to permit it in order to make Russia believe they are about to be attacked. Biden's handlers want war, war, war, and this HIMARS talk is meant to keep negotiations off the table.

Note that the CNN article, dated May 2023, said those medium range HIMARS were a 'game changer', and yet the Ukraine has continued to lose the war since then.

"last year’s offensive that allowed Ukraine to take back significant swaths of territory"

All (or at least most) of which has been retaken by the Russians.

The same fate awaits the Kursk intrusion.

“Russia has been thwarting US-made mobile rocket systems in Ukraine more frequently in recent months, using electronic jammers to throw off its GPS guided targeting system”

“This is odd, GPS gets me home from work every day”, so says the Cross-Dresser that is now the US general in charge of operations in Ukraine and who actually believed the Neocons when they insisted that Russia was a Third World country.

“I don’t remember that.”

The article is a year old, so it’s referring to the Russian pull-backs in 2022, as they had initially overextended and didn’t realize the obsession that the Neocons had with them.

We definitely have given Russia and others the advantage of learning how to defeat American weapons of war. Heaven help us if we are ever in need to fighting a war for our own survival.

Wouldn't it be awful if HIMARS were sold to our enemies south of the border? Cartels could launch them into the US, unless of course the US had some control over their firing, and or more resources were needed to operate them.

Mexican TV reports that dozens of U.S. AT-4 weapons systems, which were originally shipped to Ukraine, have been purchased by Cartel Golfo in Mexico.
