Colt Gray was given the gun he used to shoot dead four people at his Georgia high school as a Christmas present from his father months after they were questioned by the FBI over alleged threats.
The 14-year-old was arrested on Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, minutes after authorities say he opened fire on students and teachers.
Law enforcement sources told CNN Thursday that the teenage shooter received the gun for the holidays this past December.
His father Colin Gray has told authorities that he bought the gun for the boy himself as a Christmas gift. Colin Gray has yet to make any public comment on the shooting.
This was just months after the teenager and his father were interviewed by local law enforcement in connection with online threats about carrying out a school shooting made on the gaming social-media platform Discord, according to investigators.

“Pressure parents to stop buying guns for their Sons and Daughters.”
Oh, please. Kids have had guns for centuries, but it’s only recently that these shoot-’em-ups have happened. Parents need to start being parents, and they and their kids need to get to church instead of soccer fields on Sundays.
Maybe if Mom were home with them she’d get a clue about issues.
Good for you. God bless you, and he has.
Never, ever speak to the FBI.
EVER.
L
he has in many ways.
I have outlived my parents.
My kids are on their own and still come to see me.
I have no debt.
Life is good.
I never owned a semi-automatic or multiple shot magazine gun until I was old enough to buy it for mysel. I did have a single shot 410 shotgun about as soon as I was able to hold it up and I got a brand new Ithica ingle single hot .22 for my fifth birthday. It wa only used under supervision until I was about 8 then I could go target shooting but only with permission. I was 11 when I mowed enough lawns to buy a long barrel Winchester 1866 Commemorative rifle. I’ve never killed anybody with any of those guns. I usually carried a Remington 1100 to school every day during hunting season. I never shot anybody with that gun either.
Amen.
They knew about this kid a year ago and had already talked to the parents.
And there have been numerous comments that someone called in a tip and warned someone that the shooting was going to take place.
Those parents raised that wreck of a kid.
Georgia law, not US, is involved here. 14 years old is a minor. Could have parent with him to go hunting— but not go around outside the home with a rifle (say, to school for instance— against the law as a non-adult. For that matter an adult is not allowed on school grounds with a firearm- unless they are Resource officers, or legal owners as teachers (probably differs here from county to county).
Not unlike the Sandy Hook looney son whose mother did the same thing (like some peace offering from she and her husband to the kid— “please don’t act up”... bargaining. Which never works, btw). The son murdered the mom busted into the gun cabinet to get the firearm to kill the mom then went and slaughter little children in elementary school.
The mother probably a lib, thought giving the son a hobby would bond the 2 together. No- the punk slaughtered young kids, mindless anger, immature, the works.
The father is an idiot? What father buys a weapon used by the US military for his 14 year old. I had a BB gun that was actually my fathers. I never shot a real gun/rifle until I was in the Army. These kids don not need a personal weapon. The father should control all weapons in the house.
How did a 14 year old transport the AR-15 to school?
How did he smuggle an AR-15 past school security and the metal detector?
The people responsible for school security should also be charged with murder.
The problem is that in today’s world of divorce and baby daddies, the dad doesn’t live under the same roof as the mom at least 50% of the time which results in a race to the bottom to see which household can spoil Junior the most.
This completely kills the old “united front” model of parenting; the kids know it and they play it to the HILT.

Frig’ the FBI. The FBI is another wing of the Democratic Party and with strong anti 2nd-amendment thinking and actions.
I wish the FBI could be trusted again but power corrupts.
If they really wanted to stop school shootings, they would stop inculcating despair.
Do I trust the FBI?
No but they got this one right.
Guess it’s a blind squirrel finding a nut occasionally.
You want to pressure me to not buy guns, which is my God given right. All the while wanting to throw me in prison for praying for the soul of an unborn child. I see you like the “Rules for thee, but not for me” political strategy.
Yeah, well, that’s just like, your opinion, man.
I agree.
