Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia's "primary objective" remains capturing Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, emphasizing that Ukraine's recent incursion into Russia's Kursk region had not hindered the Russian military's advance.
Speaking at an economic forum in Vladivostok, located in Russia's far east, Putin stressed that full control over Donbas, which includes the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, is a top Russian priority. He reaffirmed his commitment to achieving this goal, despite the significant human and economic costs.

Well, he is a politician and that seems to come with the territory these days.
On this though, I trust him.
The situation in post war Ukraine is going to be very dire.
The Ukrainian economy has been destroyed and US and EU counties have been floating the Ukrainian economy with direct cash payments so right now the majority of the Ukrainian GDP consists of foreign aid and foreign loans and the Ukraine is almost totally dependent upon foreign aide to pay it's payrolls and expenses to float it's economy.
The Ukraine has defaulted on it's loans so that source of income is going away and foreign aid is going away rapidly as well.
Both Germany and Poland, two of the Ukraine's largest EU supporters, have announced that they have cut the Ukraine off from military and financial support and other are following suit.
The US is by far the largest cash and military donor to Ukraine and US support for the Ukraine is drying up.
The West is yanking the economic rug out from under the Ukraine and the Ukraine has nothing to replace the lost funding. This is a recipe for bad things to happen in Ukraine up to and including systemic economic collapse.
Why would Putin want to take charge of dealing with the potential economic and humanitarian disaster that is going to occur in post war Ukraine. I personally feel that Putin is going to leave dealing with fallout in post war Ukraine to the US and the EU

Well, there you have it! The primary objective is to capture Donbas, not keep Ukraine out of NATO. Right from the horse’s mouth. So much for all the other bogus excuses. This has been about a land all-along. Now what justification is there for him to keep the Ukrainian majority Kherson and Zaporizhzhia?
