About 25 years ago, I had the privilege to sit down to interview the late George Gallup, Jr., the esteemed pollster whose father founded Gallup Polls.
One of the things Gallup, Jr. said that I’ve never forgotten was his response to my question: Is America pro-abortion rights or pro-life?
He said 20% of Americans are strongly pro-choice. 20% are strongly pro-life. And the other 60% are in the “mushy middle,” and they can go either way depending upon what you ask and how you ask. I imagine that is still roughly the case.

Since the church as well as the GOP overall ceased making it a major issue, as well as fornication (which many “conservatives” support), but the Left did, then it is no surprise that post-Christian America does not see the preborn as human persons, and thus effectively considers freedom to commit infanticide to be an unalienable right.
Those Freepers often say they are pro life, but that a national abortion ban at the federal level will never happen so we shouldn’t pursue that. And also how such a position hurts us politically.
I'm not sure Trump's criticism of DeSantis's 6 week ban in Florida and claims that he will protect "women's reproductive rights" help us either. I read that the head of one of America's leading pro-life institutes is encouraging her followers not to vote for Trump unless he reverses his position. I agree with her that Trump will never win over Kamala's base. The people who want abortion legal are unlikely to believe Trump's denials of wanting a national ban while pro-life voters are turned off by such comments. It's a lose-lose situation for Trump.
