The Iskander is a Russian mobile short-range ballistic missile system that is used by the Russian military. The Iskander is organized into brigades, which are then divided into three battalions, each with two batteries of two launchers.

Here are some things to know about the Iskander:

Range: The Iskander has a range of 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Guidance: The Iskander uses both inertial and optical guidance systems.

Warheads: The Iskander-M ballistic missiles can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.

Cost: An Iskander missile can cost up to $4 million.

At the 3:00 mark.

The Russian battalions (600 + men) now have two batteries of two launchers each. These launchers are mobile, being mounted on wheeled or tracked vehicles in twos. That’s either four or eight ATACMS type missiles at the control of the colonels running these units.

The units have constant drone surveillance of the area. The drones are also are how the Iskander is targeted. The drone acquires a target, the colonel or lesser orders the launch and the precision targeting is accomplished instantaneously.

Contrast that with what it takes to to put an ATACMS on a live target.

This is a dreadful pummeling.

keep up the good threads.
The Ukrainiac propagandists need factual updates while they breathe into paper bags on their fainting couches awaiting the DNC checks to clear the bank.

“Guidance: The Iskander uses both inertial and optical guidance systems.”

How PRIMITIVE! We use GPS only, we’re no dummies (but cannot figure out why it doesn’t seem to work in Ukraine).

Free Republic's angry foreign neocons are certainly angry about this Iskander versus ATACMS article, aren't they?

Pet the little old feller on the head and maybe he won't go for your ankles...

“Something note worthy I read recently from Russian sources is that Russian field commanders have Iskander launchers attached to their units now and can fire on high priority targets without needing to communicate with a specialized missile brigade as was previously the case.

In doing this the kill chain has been significantly reduced and the time it takes to launch a missile is as quick as command can say fire. This is also likely why we’re seeing significantly more damage in the recent Iskander strikes and why we’re seeing more strikes in general.”
