A resin hitch doesn’t sound great to me, but then I’m no materials scientist. I’d look for other areas to save weight. * shrug *
NY Post makes it seem like the tow hitch is made of resin. It’s not. The actual recall notice says it’s only the little cover for the tow hitch that is resin, and that this resin cover may pop off while driving due to a defect in the cover retaining clips. It may cause a hazard to other vehicles due to it becoming road debris. Pop it off, wait for the replacement, and keep on truckin’.
RESIN????
HELD WITH “CLIPS”?????
I have a wagon with 2” ball & a 1 ton truck with 2 5/16th ball.
Each one has towing equipment installed. WELDED INTO PLACED & wagon is augmented with backing REBAR, also welded.
Have put over 250,000 miles on the truck since April 1986—towing 2 horse & 4 horse trailers WITH HORSES ON BOARD. HEAVY duty Stinger on truck has 6 different positions.
I wouldn’t tow a small utility trailer with the described equipment delineated in this article.
WOW! What a surprise! You usually only hear of recalls over cars being TOO WELL BUILT.
