Daughter Writes Scathing Obituary for ‘Terrorizing’ Mom: ‘Ding Dong, the Witch Is Dead’

A scathing obituary about a malignant Maine mother went viral Saturday, for both its brutal honesty and savage delivery.

Florence “Flo” Harrelson, 65, died back in February, but her obituary wasn’t published by the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel until Thursday.

That’s because Harrelson’s daughter, Christina Novak, who wrote the abrasive obituary, said she only learned her mom was dead this month. Novak noted in the obit that her mother, a former U.S. Marine who served as a Maine prison guard, died “on Feb. 22, 2024, without family by her side due to burnt bridges and a wake of destruction left in her path.”

My Preacher tells the story of officiating a funeral for a wealthy guy that was attended by the funeral home/graveyard personnel and himself. The recently deceased had burned so many bridges that no one would attend his funeral.

Things are only humorous if there is truth within.

There were two evil brothers. They were rich, and used their money to keep their ways from the public eye. They even attended the same church, and looked to be perfect Christians.

Their preacher could he see right through them. One of the brothers died. The remaining brother sought out the new preacher before the funeral and handed him a cheque for the amount needed to finish paying for the new building program the church had undertaken.

"I have only one condition," he said. "At his funeral, you must say my brother was a saint." The preacher gave his word, and took the money.

The next day, at the funeral, the preacher said, "This was an evil man. “He lied and cheated and did every bad thing imaginable. But compared to his brother, he was a saint."

I made no comments about her. I don't pretend to know what kind of person she is, or even if her mom really was as abusive as she made her out to be. I do have more than a casual familiarity with the effect that long-term abuse has on a child, so I can imagine what things might have motivated her to post such a thing. Or she could be exaggerating.

What I can see is that you jumped in making assumptions about her that you couldn't possibly know from this obituary. Maybe this girl got her ass beat by her mom every day as a child, locked in a closet, etc. If that were the case, would you still be pretending to know that she is a bad person? If so, that would say more about you than her.

God can heal and grow a child to forgive and still respect the abusive parent even if the parent never grows up and realizes their part of the issue.

Yeah, sure He can, but if He doesn't, well then she has to carry that burden for life. And, from what I've seen in this world, God doesn't always choose to engage in that healing.

While she may be telling the truth about her mother, there’s no need to be bitter and angry in public like this. It won’t help.

Maybe it was a release and some needed closure? It's a sad story all around.

No human should be so consumed with hate and bitterness for their entire life, they have to move on from their childhood whether bad parenting, poverty, a disability, when you meet an adult who is just plain nasty and hateful and full of bitterness, that is just who they are, something or someone didn’t lock them into being that way.

I was speaking of some of the other posts on this thread where the idea seems to be if they are your genetic contributors you should always respect them and act like they are perfect.
