Katy ISD board votes to ban books about gender identity from many school libraries

Tompkins High School student Travis Thornton held up a copy of "Mein Kampf," the 1925 manifesto published by Adolf Hitler, saying it had been checked out of the school library.

The book written by the former dictator of Germany and leader of the Nazi Party, who started World War II and oversaw the genocide of millions of Jews, is available to students in Katy ISD. As of Monday night, though, students like Thornton must get parental permission to access books that touch on gender identity – while elementary and junior high students in the district will not even be able to find them in their school libraries.

The Katy ISD board of trustees, with a 5-0 vote and two abstentions, implemented a library policy that bans books "adopting, supporting, or promoting gender fluidity." The measure also applies to district vendors and those who hold book fairs for Katy ISD, which serves more than 90,000 students in a burgeoning suburb west of Houston.

Huh Travis and Adam, one could also no doubt check out, :The Communist Manifesto and Mao's Little Red Book, from the same school library.

How convenient that the writer left that out.

Mods pull if too controversial.

It sounds like the Katy ISD school board is listening to the voters and parents who elected them.

I’m not excusing hitler in any way, but the left never acknowledges the atrocities of stalin and mao.

Hitler’s book is historical, probably no more than a thousand people read it per year worldwide.

Books on gender identity are personal, are aimed at the very young, and are brainwashing propaganda.

While I agree with their vote (obviously), they now face the prospect of the FBI showing up at their front doors (always 2 white dudes, usually gay). A better choice would have been to simply DEFUND and shutdown the library...at least doing that they can say they had better uses for the money, and also, rightly, claim that the Internet has made libraries obsolete.

Banning books is stupid it only gives the Libs more ammo to attack the right and it doesn’t stop or change anything.

Any respectable school administration wouldn’t have allowed those books to begin with. If parents need to step in, and they should, so be it.

“...books that touch on gender identity”

You can touch on your gender identity. Just don’t touch it in the library.

>> Banning books is stupid

Material aimed at the mutilation and rape of a child’s soul is not a “book”.

I tried, out of curiosity to read “Mein Kampf’’ once. Of the 443 pages in this horrible book I was able to push my way, and I do mean push my way through 200 pages of it and simply couldn’t take or understand anymore of it.

“Mein Kampf’’ is the most convoluted, incoherent, incomprehensible and just plain turgid pile of bullsh!t ever put to print.

That’s right, that kind of material is an unholy abomination.

I disagree. I think elementary school libraries should not contain comprehensive collections of hardcore pornography.

I doubt that he was able to read it.

I'm not going to concede any ground to the left. They will attack us regardless. We are changing things and the left is in a panic. They can't expose their fifth to our kids in many public schools districts anymore and its driving them mad.

Ask yourself, should school kids be exposed to Hustler, Playboy, trans & gay porn and Hitler and Mau's manifestos of death? If the answer is no then action must be taken even if you think is gives the left "ammo". I think supporting this crap makes the left look like the pedo freaks they really are.

Let our kids grow up safe and keep their innocence long as possible. There will be plenty of time to study stupid pervy stuff in collage hopefully by then the kids will have the foundation it reject it.

That's what this battle is about.

Schools not stocking books is not ‘banning books’. One of the responsibilities of a school board is to approve or not approve what materials are available in the school library. Not everything is. In addition, there is a budget, so they can't approve everything. Thesee books are available in society at large. If the parents want these books in theri home, they can buy them.
