Bud Light boycott still hammers local distributors 1 year later: 'Very upsetting'
ABC ^ | 6/14/24 | Max Zahn

When conservative activists set aflame boxes of Bud Light and urged a boycott in response to an endorsement from a trans influencer last spring, they sent sales of the beer plummeting in a rare success in the long history of consumer movements.

Even more improbably, the backlash continues to hammer Bud Light and strain independent local wholesalers more than a year later, according to third-party sales data shared with ABC News as well as interviews with six Anheuser-Busch wholesalers.

Most of the wholesalers, small- and medium-sized businesses that draw a significant portion of their revenue from Bud Light, said they remain weakened by the decline in sales and uncertain about when, if ever, the brand will fully recover.

Most of the wholesalers, small- and medium-sized businesses that draw a significant portion of their revenue from Bud Light, said they remain weakened by the decline in sales and uncertain about when, if ever, the brand will fully recover.

The owner of an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler in the Northeast, whose child is trans, told ABC News they have taken a 30% pay cut to make up for the losses and are considering retirement

After the Boycott started, folks tried other beers. They realized what piss pond swill Bud Light really is.
They aren’t going back.
Far too many other better tasting choices.

I don’t get it. If I’m a beer drinker, and I refuse to buy Bud, I’ll just by something else. That should even it out (unless folks are drinking less or going to other outlets).

Force AB to retire the brand. That would be a win.

It's lousy beer anyway. I prefer to drink beer brewed according to the Medieval German brewing laws, such as Altstadt Brewery in Fredericksburg. I also like Shiner Bock.

The closest thing to an apology was the termination of the marketing director that forced this idea on their customers.

It’s never actually been a very organized boycott. AB rebranded their beer overnight into the official beer of grown men dressing and acting like giggling 12-year-old girls. Their customer base had previously been beer swilling tailgating sports fans and none of them will be seen drinking trannie beer. The brand is dead and it’s not coming back.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she still has her job, she seemed to have a handle on Bud Light’s base:

My university was too small to have frats or sororities. We had our weekend keggers, of course. The usual brew was Lucky Beer, the local beer that was inexpensive. The fridge in my dorm room always had a six pack of beer in it, too.

Six months after graduation, I'm stationed in Germany. I could get a couple of litres of Konigsbacher or Bitburger for the price of a six ounce Coke...without ice. I was living in Traben-Trarbach, on the Mosel River, home of the finest Riesling I have ever tasted.

On the plus side, their clientele isn’t quite as fratty as it used to be.

Every once in a while, I chime in on Bud Light threads to say I can’t understand why anyone drinks that lousy, sweet beer water in the first place. This is one of those times.

I think the reason for this success and the main reason it will continue is that every time someone thinks about putting one of these bottles or cans to their mouth, the get a mental image of that dude dressed as a woman. WHY would you want your mouth on that??

The propagandists at ABC are getting paid to call this a boycott when they damn well know it's a divorce.

Those customers aren't coming back to drink Troon Juice.

“This will be a case study in conservative business schools for years to come.”

The “New Coke” debacle of the New Millennium.

“There is no such thing as conservative business schools.”

They exist, but not Ivy League. Which is also losing prestige points.

AND AB tried to tie in to another suicidal US company, Harley Davidson. Indian and Coors must love their good fortunes.
