In 2020 our corrupt legislature banned the non-flammable refrigerants like R134a. The law along with a bunch of other laws was passed as part of an omnibus budget bill.

The law had no hearings.

It bans our nonflammable refrigerants by phasing out production.

It controls production and consumption.

In 24, production and consumption were both cut to 60%. Since a lot of production is sold overseas, the US limits are the steeper control. The government has to approve each overseas sale to move an amount from the consumption to the production category. There is no rollover, so delays at the end of the year in transfers limit production.

The next big cut starts in 29, but the producers will probably shutdown the US plants before then.

The companies are not fighting the regulation because they were bought off with large cash donations to create new businesses.

It's a sad day in America.

Date Percentage of Production Baseline Percentage of Consumption Baseline 2020–2023 90 percent 90 percent 2024–2028 60 percent 60 percent 2029–2033 30 percent 30 percent 2034–2035 20 percent 20 percent 2036 and thereafter 15 percent 15 percent

Since these are not ozone-depleting Chlorofluorocarbons, what is the point? To make consumers buy new hardware?

Maybe the point is that there is no point. Give the government a club, and everyone gets it in the head.

Stock up on R410A while you can.

They created a new category just to show us that the new ones aren’t that flammable, A2L.

Those in power just want to ensure they are the only ones who can afford to use refrigeration.

Not a problem, we are not going to have the energy to run luxuries like AC and refrigeration anyway. </sar>

Killing off AIM’ers should be an American priority

If they are dead, there is no problem

The refrigerant scam is back! I stocked up on R-12 back in the day so I could take care of my cars that used it. I had about 5-7 years worth of the stuff. I eventually converted everything to R-134a. Now it’s looking like I’m going to have to stock up on R-134a.

Newer refrigerators use flammable cyclopentane as a refrigerant making your fridge a potential bomb. Not the first time that the government sacrifices our safety in the name of green energy. Remember those curly CFL light bulbs filled with toxic mercury?

The wickedness here also is that everything has to be re-engineered - destroying existing working craftmanship and expertise that went into creating a long lasting appliance.

The government destroys again!
