(WRIC) — AT&T customers in parts of the country are reporting an outage that’s left them without service or their iPhone devices stuck in SOS mode.
Reports of an outage peaked just before 6 p.m. CST on Downdetector, with more than 5,700 users complaining of a service disruption. By 8:35 p.m., the reports fell to just over 3,400.
According to USA Today, a company spokesperson said AT&T is working to fix a “software issue that may be disrupting the ability of some of our customers to connect to our wireless network.”
The spokesperson told the outlet that the outage seems to be affecting customers in the Midwest and on the East Coast, but Downdetector shows reports coming in from California too.

No problem for me - I use Google for my spyware.
And I have an easy phone for self service - I just take out the battery and put it back in. Maybe Apple will upgrade to removable battery technology at some point. Oh, wait, they can’t. The government makes the phone companies use non-removable batteries now so they can still keep tracking you when the phone is “off”.
3,400 customers, that’s all? Not a very big “outage”.
What is ‘SOS mode’? What does SOS mean in this context?
AT&T........I think I see the problem.................
Yesterday, my AT&T Internet was down most of the day.
Emergency phone calls only, no internet...............
Thing is, I don't live in any of the areas mentioned.
It's a feature that allows connection with other cellular networks for emergency calls or texts when your cellular network is unavailable. For iPhone 14 and above, you can even use satellite for emergency calls only. iPhone also has a feature that will send a text to your emergency contacts with your location data if you make an emergency call in SOS mode.
CWA is on strike
We have Android phones, but our wireless service is ATT, and our cell service uses their towers; we’ve had no problems here in northeast Oklahoma.
Yesterday was terrible for connection. We don’t have wifi and on NC boonies we frequently have no service even outside but yesterday was awful
>>>> 3400 - not a big outage
That’s those who reported. Many like me did not and without service it’s rather difficult to call in a problem
Missing some 000”S??
Even if you are out of minutes, 911 will still work on any cell phone.
