I lurk on Instagram. There was a thing there where women were asked what would they fear more if confronted in the woods, a man or a bear. Most said they would be more afraid of the man, and would be more trusting of the bear. It hasn’t aged well. Women are rightly getting roasted over this.

Bears are basically hogs on steroids, with better teeth and clawed appendages.

We once raised a few for meat for the family and I noticed when I would get in the pen they would run over and start smelling me and first when I thought “ohh they are trying to be friends”. Soon they would start nipping at me and I came to the realization they didn’t want to be friends they were testing out the possibility I was FOOD.

If a bear comes in my house it's getting blasted, no if's, ands or buts about it.

I'll walk over to my game warden neighbor's house and arrange for the disposal of the carcass afterwards.

Personally, I’d just stick to dogs 🐶🐩🦮🐕‍🦺 🐕 and cats 🐱🐈🐈‍⬛ myself.

Two summers ago, we had a cute juvenile bear, hang out in the back yard of our mountain house and was out there literally every single day from June to August, 2022. When he saw us, he would run into the forest. It was hard to resist not feeding the little guy. Then, in May of last year at 5am, we discovered the biggest brown bear on our porch that I’d ever seen in the wild. Either our little bear had a sudden growth spurt, or this was a new guy who might have killed and eaten “our bear”. Either way, it was a reminder not to treat bears like stray yard dogs.

When I was a child in the 50s a man set up a “bear ride” on a corner near our house. For a quarter you could ride on the back of a grizzly bear. The bear was quite safe because he had a muzzle on. (You DO recognize sarcasm, right?)

My folks gave me the quarter and let me ride him.

Now, in my 70s I wonder...... what the hell were they thinking?

Making Bears ‘Family’ Sets Everybody Up For Maiming, Death

I've noticed that my mother-in-law has been feeling kinda blue and lonely lately. Been wondering if I should buy her a house pet.

Regards,
