Anyone Interested in a Book Club style thread wherein we listen and comment on David Suchet's reading of the NIV Bible?

Thank you for the interest, many kind suggestions and links to help us pull together a plan.

Here's a list of people who may still be considering participating in this thread's Book Club version wherein we watch David Suchet videos, or read the assigned book ourselves if we prefer. Let me know if you'd like on or off the list. :D

Each reading assignment will be one book? I know some books are long so I'll be looking for direction on pacing. Maybe long books will form a few separate reading assignments (chapters?) with primary discussion once the book is completed?

I think it's a good idea that not every day has an assignment like the Navigator PDF suggested (I think they suggested 25 reading assignments per month)- we may need some days in case people need more time for life and don't want to fall behind.

As to timing - we could plan to meet on a date/time and those who can't make it can catch up and comment later. I would think since most FReepers are in California, it would be a Pacific Standard time. Does anyone have suggestions? Some are not early birds, some are not late birds, some work. A little help please?

I like the suggestion of a monthly thread with a reading plan.

The following italicized suggestion sounds good, and I'll be cross referencing it after reading the links below to distill ideas on managing rotating leaders. I basically have to learn from others how to do this so rotating leaders would allow me to learn from many without me bogging everyone down over and over.

Maybe rotate leaders for each book, who will lead by laying out a reading/listening plan and with each part such as instruction, body section and summary with discussion questions. Maybe a new leader chosen by simple vote, after the freeper offers to do so. The first leader and book...vote on how to begin that too maybe.

I also think a caucus thread with boundaries is a good idea. Would love for our time to be uplifting and without strife.

I'm noting the interest in listening to JEJ read portions:

Formally casting my vote to hear JEJ read the KJV when we get to the 23rd Psalm!

Just got James Earl Jones reading the King James Bible on Audible!

Interestingly the note says that this new version has removed the background music of the prior edition in order that one may better “hear and appreciate the Scripture.” So that was a pretty good note to see!

One thing about the David Suchet NIV, the Chaptering done by Audible doesn’t really comport with the Chapter Breaks in the Bible itself. One of the reviewers at Audible posted a kind of cheat sheet for it, later I’ll log in from my phone, think I’d be able to post the link that way. It was very helpful to me while I listened to it.

Having a “moderator” for each session will be difficult. Trying to coordinate that might be a bigger mess. (can’t make it, forgot, internet down, dog ate my homework.....)

These are my thoughts.... perhaps a format of this type. This is just my example.

Doing something like this will give you the flexibility to alter the pace.

No. If you have no comments, then no comments are made. I am just insecure about how to do this as I don’t recall participating in a book club before. I guess I’d like to avoid complete radio silence as we move book to book, and would like to know the nature of comments that others might find of interest or useful. But if no one comments, that’s fine too.
