Phil Donahue repeatedly put NAMBLA on his show so they could be exposed (repeatedly) while receiving a public introduction and mainstreaming (repeatedly) or to argue their case (repeatedly), you decide.
I’m going by memory about more than one NAMBLA appearance on the show because search doesn’t work very well on the question.
I thought he was in his 80s 40 years ago.
Godspeed.
I’ll be quiet too. An insufferable lib but he at least gave Milton Friedman a platform … more than once. Without him I doubt we would have had Oprah and Ellen and Rosie and Drew B et al. Whether that’s a good or bad thing…. Well….
Alain Delon, Phil Donahue…. Who’s next?
To give the devil her due, Marlo was cute as a bug in “That Girl” era.
One time on his show or in an interview, I heard Phil talk about how he had removed his kids (from his first marriage) from their suburban schools (in Ohio, I think) and enrolled them in majority-black urban public schools so that they wouldn’t grow up to be “racists.” At that point, I realized that Donahue was a monster. Even the Pelosis and Clintons AND even Obamas of the world don’t impose their ideology on their kids, instead enrolling them in the fanciest, whitest private schools they can find.
I thought “legendary” meant that he didn’t really exist.
Dayton, OH
Growing up in Dayton,OH I was aware of Phil’s start on local WHIO-TV before he went national.
I was flipping the channels yesterday and Marlo Thomas turned up as “That Girl.”
I wonder if God or the universe was sending a message.
Is he the main character from Naked Gun?

I do have one reason to thank Phil Donahue. The first time I ever heard Rush Limbaugh speak was when he appeared as a guest on Donahue’s show. A friend of mine had been telling me about Rush, and said I should listen to his radio program because I would like what he had to say. I said “yeah, yeah, I’ll have to check him out” - but never did. One day at the gym, they had Donahue’s show playing on the TV mounted on the wall. When he introduced Rush, I paid attention. Donahue asked Rush about his views on women serving in the military. I think he expected Rush to be dead set against it, but instead, Rush offered his proposal for the “All-American Amazon Army.” From that day foward, I became a loyal listener to Rush’s program.
Springer had been mayor of Cincinnati prior to his talk show days.
Cinci
Only thing I remember about this guy was his continued ass-kissing of a Soviet apologist always bad mouthing the US.
When I think of Phil Donahue, I think of Phil Hartman’s portrayal of him in an old SNL skit.
*Have to give him props for having a 44-year marriage; not so easy with two celebs.*
Marlo a celeb? Born with her daddy’s schnoz.
How’s this going to affect the View’s Nielson rating?
That was Jerry Springer when he was MAYOR of Cincinnati!!
But I said "Don't worry dad, NO ONE is going to FOLLOW her!" HA! Little did I know how IMMORAL our country would become!!
