An estimated 1.5 million taxpayers will be notified of their automatic eligibility for a new round of state-funded Anchor property-tax relief benefits starting next week, state Treasury officials said Tuesday.
The benefits, intended to help offset the state’s high local property taxes, will once again total as much as $1,750 per household.
Those eligible for automatic enrollment will see letters notifying them that their applications for Anchor benefits will be filed with the state automatically beginning Aug. 19, the officials said.
Later this month the Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation will also be sending out information via mail about applying for Anchor benefits to another 2 million households as part of efforts to reach all who may be eligible to receive the popular relief benefits, the officials said.

Why not just reduce the property tax rates?
Ohhhhhh…..
That would be hard to undo after the election is over.
Why not just reduce the property tax rates?
~~~
Isn’t that how most public schools are funded?
We can’t actually lower those!!!
Let’s do a tertiary subsidy for public schools by offering federal relief for public school property taxes to keep people from fleeing the higher tax districts with bad schools, just like we forgive student loans in order do a 3rd party subsidy for the overpriced university systems.
This is just my first angle, but it all seems like it’s meant to prop up the democrat well established indoctrination systems, to try to keep their bubbles from bursting.
Just another Government shake down and vote buying operation!
ANYONE of a certain age with NO children still in public schools should NOT have to pay for schools.
Could this be a tactic to divide the voters who may be turning against Public Skewl and Commie "Teachers" Unions?
I am assisting my elderly parents in NJ. Many programs to reimburse property taxes. I cannot understand why NJ does not just lower taxes. I am so, so happy I fled NJ in 1985!
School competition will drain students from failed over priced public schools and will eventually decrease property taxes...in a sane world with sane policies.
BINGO!
Democrats - buying votes on their taxpayers dime since 1936.
Too funny. A friend of mine has property taxes of 25,000 a year in jersey. 1750 wouldn’t even help a bit. Ridiculous!
