Two recent polls are at odds over the likelihood of success for a Florida initiative to legalize recreational marijuana, with one survey indicating the measure will pass in November and the other suggesting it will not garner enough votes for approval. If passed in this fall’s general election, Amendment 3 would legalize cannabis for adults aged 21 and older and set the stage for regulated sales of recreational pot.
On Tuesday, a Suffolk University/USA TODAY/WSVN-TV poll showed that Amendment 3 would pass with 63% of the vote, significantly higher than the three-fifths majority required for success under Florida law. The level of support is consistent with other recent polls that showed the marijuana legalization measure would receive more than 60% of the vote.
The survey asked 500 likely voters the question “should recreational marijuana be legalized?” Among those surveyed, 63% said “yes” while a third (33%) said “no.” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, noted that marijuana legalization is supported by a majority of voters across the political spectrum. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of Democrats, 69% of independent voters and 51% of Republicans said that marijuana should be legalized, as did a majority of respondents in each age group.
“The marijuana question has wide support across all demographics,” Paleologos said, according to a WSVN report on the poll.

NO and hell NO!!!!!
Canada legalized pot... The theory was that government would make tens and even hundreds of millions in taxes... Turns out that didn’t happen. Illegal pot distributers dropped their prices. Grams of pot that typically went for about $10 per gram, dropped to under $5 per gram. You can buy some ounces for $25 per ounce and the super duper pot goes for about $75 per ounce.
Because of these lower prices from illegal sales, the Government pot sales are pretty much negligent. They’re overpaying legal producers and the tax revenue is probably just enough to keep the government agencies that deal pot in business. No profits at all.
So what did the ‘legalization’ of pot achieve?
It has been beneficial for our native population... They’ve pretty much taken over the illegal drug market in Canada... Much to the chagrin of the Government and the Hells Angels.
Another plus for native groups... They produce all the illegal cigarettes in Canada and they formerly used criminal organizations like the Hells Angels to distribute their cigs... Now they just sell them on the reserve for much cheaper prices. You can buy cartons for $20... A carton of legal cigarettes will cost you about $170... So you can imagine how screwed the federal government is when it comes to cigarette revenue. It keeps dropping and they keep claiming it’s because people are quitting... But the fact is, they’re buying illegal cigarettes.
I’ve never touched the stuff, but my guess is that there are plenty of recreational users who would prefer that their activity is legal. That (my guess) outweighs the economic argument.
There is no reason for marijuana possession to be a crime, much less a felony.
I think only boomers still smoke weed, lololol
Everyone else gets their THC through vape products and edibles.
It will pass,
Here in The People’s Republic Of New York where weed has been legalized, it sells from anywhere from 50 an ounce to 350 an ounce, depending on quality.
Is that gov sanctioned or blackmarket weed pricing?
Should be illegal to smoke in public. So there needs to be a nuisance charge.
If you go into a major city anywhere in the U.S., you can smell it everywhere.
Dover, Delaware. Real time...
We have a music festival (Phish) in town for 4 days. Through Sunday night’s events.
There is a cloud over Dover and you can smell the venue from a mile away.
I am a cannabis proponent, but I do agree with you there. Exception being for events like concerts. IOW, if you can sell booze at a venue, you should be able to consume cannabis.
Vote for both!
Just think how well-off Floridians be with a Jamaican President and the finest product to ever come from Jamaica...!
With the added benefit of “women’s health”.
DemonRats want more voters and legalized marijuana will do it. Dems say “A stoned voter is one of our voters”.
Both!
Black market generally a little cheaper but high quality still begets high price.
