John Madden was an entertainer. Definitely knew the game but all he could say was “and then boom!” Got bored with his schtick but it worked for a long time. When he said an average linebacker named Milt McColl ‘kinda reminded me of Ted Hendricks I knew he was full of it. You see Milt McColl was an average linebacker at best. The only comparison was their height, around 6 foot six. Hendricks was a hall of fame player.
Conclusion: You can go far with a Forrest Gump naïveté/attitude. At least it wasn’t negative like mine. Sorry.

A horrible actor. He’s unwatchable.

I like Cage’s movies. I just yesterday was wishing he’d make a new one.

Can’t take seroiusly any movie starring Nicholas Cage.

Billy Gardell would be a much better John Madden, both with his look and his voice...
Cage ain’t John Madden....

I don’t remember John Madden as being emotionless and dull.

If this isn’t about the film director John Madden, Nic is going to have to get really fat real fast. What about height and general coloration? How convincing could he be?

Absolute BS!
That Cage dickhead couldn’t do justice to a representation, on screen, of John Madden...

I'm old enough to remember watching the Raiders with Madden as their HC back in the 70s when I was a kid - lifelong fan of the man. And I'm also a big fan of Nick Cage. But Cage playing Madden? Sounds weird.
But then I was skeptical of Heath Ledger playing the Joker, and he ended up delivering an iconic performance.
Should be at least as good as John Wayne playing Genghis Khan.

I thought Nicolas Cage quit acting. Thinking about this, maybe he should have.

I wish they’d reconsider and insist on an actor to play the part.
