The Baťa Skyscraper, in Zlín, Czechia, is a landmark of architecture. And the office of Jan Antonín Baťa... is an elevator.

It's a neat concept. You could have your bedroom like this. Raised up at night for protection and on the ground floor for breakfast. It's a good safe room concept.

However, I can only imagine the boss calling you in for an evaluation and, as he's telling you that you are underperforming, the elevator is going down to the ground floor, where'd you be told to get out.

Cool for an indulgence, but for a daytime office the novelty probably wore off pretty quickly.

The boss left the country. Don’t know if the company stayed in business, as it was WWII at that point. Did anyone ever actually use the office?

Dilbert’s office was moved into a toilet stall

Well, that’s one Czech who won’t have to worry about being defenestrated.

Well that probably had its ups and downs.

There were high days. Every day.

There were low days. Every day.

One moment you’re heading up in the world.

Then, the next moment, you’re on a downer.

That comment went to the top floor!

Sounds like the poor guy got shafted.

But in the end, it’s just ... stories

He was on a project with Wally, so it was convenient to co-locate.

Surely the building didn’t just sit there empty all this time.

smiles

(as I recall, Dilby called his mama from his toilet stall to report to her that he’d finally been rewarded with a “private office”)

It seems likely that some other business used the building. Not sure I’d want an office that could trap or drop me.
