Good afternoon Freepers. This is a post to ask what I hope is a simple question. What do you all recommend for use as a web browser?
The reason I ask this question is because today I was trying to update my Mozilla-ish browser called Palemoon. It's actually a Goanna fork of Mozilla so it's not really based on their programming code anymore, that I'm aware of. In the process of my task, I noticed that it wasn't playing well with a few secure websites, like ID.me, myPay, etc.
I use Brave as my primary browser, and I also have Chromium. The Chromium is there only as a repository of URLs I no longer use but that I like to keep on back up, just in case. Of course Edge is there only because W10 puts it there. I also have the aforementioned Palemoon because I still want, and like, to have a Mozilla-ish type web browser. It does somethings rather well, but for the most part it's sluggish, and as I mentioned, it doesn't do well with some secure websites.
Many web browsers have come and gone. The list on Wikipedia is very long with now defunct browsers. I used to use Maxthon but dropped that years ago. I also used Safari when it was available for Windows systems. I really liked that one but Apple dropped support for Windows back in 2012. I miss Netscape Navigator (yeah, I'm really dating myself!), but I won't use Firefox after what they did to folks on their board who contributed to conservative causes.
So, your thoughts are welcomed. Thank you.
It’s too bad Safari isn’t supported on Windows anymore. I really liked that one back in the day.
I mostly use Brave. I keep Firefox because Brave doesn’t work well with some sites - YouTube & Login.gov in particular.
Use Bing. Click on News and then you can choose the time period.
I use this every day to search for news articles on a particular subject and filter by “last 24 hours” etc.
I agree about chromium, BUT.. people must be real careful using it, being that there is NO protection when using it (unless they added their own).
Which is why people look for new things and try them out.
Some work, some don't.
But your 99% "Just work" is a flat out lie and you know it.
And it is cute the way you try to deflect the fact that you accuse people who do not bow down and worship like you do at the feet of the people who track you and censor data as "People who have something to hide". Sounds like projection to everyone with a brain.
Good point, and very true, which is why always add extensions for adblockers, script blockers, etc.
youtube news fox Is where I go for a start that points me to free movies and links for other news. I’m too old to get any more compucated than that. I haven’t had a Television for 4 years.
You miss my point. What is not working? What is the problem you are tying to fix
The Windows version.
Here’s a good video that reviews 7 private browsers. It’s time-coded so you jump right the review on Librewolf.

Thank you, I use Linux and I liked it, it just seemed too resource hungry at the time I tried it. I will try it again and see if they made it lighter.
DDG- Duck Duck Go.
I like Waterfox better than palemoon.
I also like Vivaldi.
In the end, there are some websites that require the latest Firefox/Chrome/Edge.
I use Firefox. I have modified it using these directions as seen here.

I use uBlock Orgin to blocks ads and images.

New tab homepage - You have your own homepage and new tabs can go there or elsewhere or just be blank.

Yeah. DDG is pretty good. On iOS is still has to use the common video rendering engine which is annoying s apple has had numerous bug fixes (even recently) for image processing hacks that cause k malware to get in or data to leak.
You know, just yesterday I downloaded the installer package, and it didn’t work! I’ll try again!
I think I may have tried Waterfox a few years back. How does it perform?
And I'm too busy. I start (and end) the day at youtube, where I learn stuff. Maybe 5% of the fare is news, the rest is educational. FR takes up another 5%. I was raised without tv -- got the computer when I was a tot.
No browser is perfect for me, but I have Opera and Firefox, the latter has less ads. I don't upgrade. All told I probably spend three hours a day online absorbing information; so I'm not picky about the browser. I do miss Mozilla's email program, Thunderbird. Can't seem to make it work for various email addys that I don't want to drop. But Firefox, I can take it or leave it. Got a Mac I rarely use, just can't get used to it, and haven't the time to devote to it.
DuckDuckGo
It makes playing videos — especially from Youtube — seamless and easy without the garbage.
Ditto. Waterfox is my primary browser here at home.
