A former Minnesota bar owner who now commutes two hours a day to sling suds in neighboring Wisconsin said Gov. Tim Walz’s restrictive pandemic-era lockdowns in the state “decimated” local businesses — and caused financial ruin for those who stood up for their livelihoods.
“I think he’s an evil man who overstepped his role as the governor. He took small businesses and ripped them up. He destroyed us,” Lisa Zarza.
...
She said when shelter-in-place and business closures first went into effect in March, 2020, “I did everything I was supposed to do. I wore my mask, I social distanced. I stayed at home.”
But as the months wore on and the state slowly reopened, salons, bars and restaurants remained under Walz’s closure orders — which weren’t completely lifted statewide until May of 2021.
By October, 2020, Zarza and a cohort of fellow bar owners had had enough and decided to defy the order.
“I stood up because he stripped us of our rights. It was a discrimination against certain groups of people and we were one of them. He didn’t have a right to do what he did to us,” she fumed.
But the short-lived uprising by local restaurateurs was swiftly crushed by Walz’s regime.
“I was threatened with arrests, I was threatened with fines. At the end of the entire lawsuit, my lawsuit including Attorney General fees was over $300,000. I filed personal bankruptcy,” she said.
Meanwhile, it was business as usual around much of the state, the bar owner raged.
“Everything else, literally Target, Walmart, Home Depot. Everyone was open 100 percent. The same exact order that shut us down, opened them all up,” Zarza recalled.
“He took away rights from the American people and from Minnesotans that he did not have a right to take.”

The Democrat party is against private sector small business in the USA. I’ve noticed that the Democrats are back to talking about “working people“ to mean ONLY people who are members of a union.
The Trump campaign should reach out to this lady and have her tell her story.
Governor Walz commented on Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s claims of hesitation to send in the National Guard to Minneapolis on May 27 [2020] with the following statement, “I don’t think the mayor knew what he was asking for…I think the mayor said, ‘I request the National Guard, whew, this is great. We’re going to have massively trained troops.’ No. You’re going to have 19 year olds who are cooks in some cases.”
Senator Andrew Mathews (R-Princeton) issued a reply:
“The troops Governor Walz calls “19 year old cooks” walked into a chaotic situation on the evening of May 30th, put themselves at risk, and successfully quelled the violence after four days of rioting.
“It is outrageous that men and women dedicated to top-tier training and protection of our nation are subjected to belittling comments from our governor. We all know people who have been deployed: sons, daughters, parents, siblings, and friends. The Guard has been deployed around the world, are known for their skill and training, and are sworn to protect our country and our freedoms. “Minnesotans know that the governor’s response to the Minneapolis riots was an abject failure, by every objective measurement. Instead of accepting responsibility, Gov. Walz is trying to blame the mayor, the Guard, and anyone but himself. His insulting comments about our troops are uncalled for, outright wrong, and deserving of an apology to every Guard member in this state.”
I have extended family still in MN.
They were in full lock down 2.5 years after AZ opened its doors wide.
Even today they are afraid of their own shadow.
The worst crime, in the eyes of the state, is defying its authority or resisting its power.
It will get you and make you suffer.
From what I have seen of and read about Tim Walz, he is a small minded prick.
He has succeeded in professions that enable him to be in control with little supervision or having to explain failures. The classroom and the football field have been his only boundaries and kids are easy to boss around.
As an Army troop he was able to rise in enlisted ranks to the top but, when faced with deployment he chickened out and bailed on his troops.
Some leader, Huh?
He reminds me of Slow Joe Biden when he started in politics.

They would be mistaken not to do so.
After Lockdown Larry Hogan the Dems are still triple masked alone driving in cars with a face shield in MD.
imo he’s got a few screws loose, he’s whack
Walz’s straight-gay alliance students loved him.
Just ask them.
Lol.
Most other states did likewise, did they not? NY, Calif, Hawaii even.
I don’t think you can single him out on this one.
Even kristi noem of S Dakota turned a blind eye when businesses were being shut down and people forced to take a dangerous injection in order to keep their job.
In response to her constituents crying for relief from the madness, her response was “I can’t tell what private businesses to do”.
Sounds noble except that government tell small business what to do all the time. Noem thought it was a cute way to sidestep her responsibility as governor.
Plus the Trump administration was in power at the time. Maybe stay away from this one.
I just posted a thread of this exact same article! After four replies, I got the “thread pulled-—search still works” message.
I swear I searched!!! I hate this when it happens to me! I searched using the first four words of the article title and it STILL happened.
I’m beginning to think my internet connection is so slow that information just takes a while to get to my spot here in the woods.
Now I forgot the comment I wanted to make about the article. LOL!
Anyway, this type of information needs to be spread far and wide. Harris/Walz will be business destroyers while Trump/Vance will reduce regulations and allow job creators the opportunity to grow.
We do not need dictators who punish business owners and care not that they destroy their livelihoods. We need someone who has operated businesses and understand the day to day challenges owners must tackle.
I wonder if Walz likes little boys and little girls? Hmmmmmmm......
He seems like a weird, goofy semi-adult that likes to play and kid around with kids. He has the same maturity level.
Waiting for a former student to come out and say something.
If she had only opened a Gay Bath House, she would have been given a pass.
Go after Walz. Hit him hard.
