Jordan Chiles has been stripped of the Olympic bronze medal she won in the women's floor final after a bombshell ruling from the Court of Arbitration of Sport on Saturday.
The 23-year-old US gymnast came third in the event, behind gold medalist Rebeca Andrade of Brazil and silver medalist and fellow teammate Simone Biles.
But this was only after Chiles' score of 13.666, which had initially placed her fifth, was bumped up by 0.1 following an appeal from her coach.
The change to her score meant that Romania's Ana Barbosu and her teammate Sabrina Maneca-Voinea were pushed down to fourth and fifth, each with matching scores of 13.700.
But, in a shock ruling today, the CAS ruled the judging panel were wrong to allow Chiles' score to be increased as the appeal came outside the one minute window allowed by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
CAS wrote in its decision that the initial finishing order should be restored, with 18-year-old Barbosu third, teammate Sabrina Maneca-Voinea fourth and Chiles fifth.
USA gymnastics said it is 'devastated' by the decision, with Chiles taking to social media to say she was removing herself from social media 'for my mental health'.

Well... You should have watched the last 3 minutes of that USA-France game for the gold. Our defense mostly stunk, but otherwise good stuff, and Stephan Curry was freaking lights out. One of the best clutch long range shooting performances I’ve ever seen.
Exactly! And bids and proposals aren’t even considered if they are not within the time specified and they are returned for that very reason. So is there a time stamp for the submission of an appeal? How or who determines the cutoff?
This is simple rule of submissions 101!
Everyone has to abide by the rules.
When it first happened Jordan thought she hadn’t placed but when the reversal was made she later explained to the sportscaster that her coach asked her about filing an appeal and she was like “ ok”. That exchange probably cost her four seconds!
Why wasn’t the coach told right then and there by the judges that the appeal was filed too late? Don’t the gymnasts know the rules? Don’t the coaches know the rules? Don’t the judges know the rules?
Also, I personally love athletes that are patriotic but not so much when they take swipes at political figures like Trump. So to me when Simone Biles announced she loves her “black job” after getting gold the previous day-she just showed how shallow she is. Ironically the next day when it seemed she was disappointed that she got silver and the Brazilian gymnast was awarded the gold- I didn’t mind at all.
It’s like the women’s US gymnastic team needs to be taught that the basics of good sportsmanship at the Olympics requires a very high level of skill, grace, and maturity they lack- in so many ways.

Some of events are fairly obscure, you get feeling you are seeing ten best people at activity on planet, but ten out of twenty doing activity.

That sounds like a factual error. Factual errors, as opposed to judgment errors, should not be bound by the one minute rule. If there is the possibility of an appeal, it should be appealed.
Too subjective. Gymnastics is not a sport. It should be removed from the Olympics.
Her team appealed her score at the tome of her event because they said she had a maneuver that wasn’t counted in their score so it should be higher. They won the appeal so she got bronze. Now they are reversing the appeal and she loses. Sad.
Is one minute a reasonable time to analyze the results?
Does the coach get a detailed report on how the judges scored each move?
My understanding is that each move is worth so many points, then it is graded for quality of execution.
I imagine the second part of that is so subjective that a successful protest is very difficult.
No. The judges, apparently, didn’t give her credit for a higher scored maneuver. The appeal was to ask them to consider the maneuver and give her credit for it.
As if it's not bad enough that half the U.S. athletes have "health exemptions" to take steroids and stimulants like Adderall, including the Simone Biles. It's all so fake.

In the first place, Chiles and a Hispanic gymnast (forgot her name, she did not even compete in one event in Paris) were both named to the US team earlier this summer because of DEI.

Yeah, that was the real outrage: The Black athletes openly and explicitly celebrating the fact that all three winners were Black.
