PREPARING FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A DRAFT WITHOUT PANIC
War on the Rocks ^ | 8/8/24 | Taren Sylvester and Catherine Kuzminski

Posted on 08/09/2024 12:30:07 PM PDT by hardspunned

Conscription — a practice most Americans believe should be relegated to the dustbin of history — has returned as an uncomfortable topic of conversation among U.S. allies and adversaries alike. This has generated concern and even conspiracy theories among American voters. But a candid discussion would be healthier. The fact is, if the United States hopes to deter or defeat a Chinese attack on Taiwan, it should be prepared to effectively implement a draft. To be clear, this is a solution of last resort, but one that may be necessary.

Right now, U.S. mobilization has not been tested in decades. As a result, current ideas about how it would function are woefully out of date. Being prepared to execute a draft requires buy-in from across all branches of government — and society writ large.

At a minimum, the executive branch and Congress should actively pursue a more proactive approach. The National Security Council should take the lead on mobilization exercises. Congress should also get out ahead on expanding Selective Service System registration to all Americans between the ages of 18–25, thereby preventing future legal challenges to the current all-male registration system when time may be of the essence.

I agree. If we’ve reached the point of drafting Americans for war with China or Russia, one side will be nuked before they even make it to an aircraft carrier to leave the US.

I only support the draft if it directly threatens our homeland. Such as if what is happening to Ukraine is happening here.

I, for one, am happy to die for Victoria Nuland, Anthony Blinken, and Hunter Biden.

I've warned my three sons that war in coming and likely a draft also for young men and women.

I told them to decide now if they want to go die for Ukraine and the globohomopedo WEF. It's time to plan. I will support whatever decision they make.

"Perhaps refraining from trying to start three world wars at the same time would be a better option for DC!"

So the rectums who love wars, now want to include women in their B$ drafts. (Excerpt) Read more at warontherocks.com ...

It would be so sweet to see them in boot camp.

as long as one individual says to the other that their nose needs to be blown, there will be wars.

I am of the last generation of the draft. with the ignorance/illiteracy/ math= racism bilge that exists today, balanced with all the whizbang technology coming forth cor the military, we have allowed ourselves not nly to buy the dildo, but all the various instructions and choice of lubricants!

The machinery of the 1970s draft allowed the I.Q. level of 80 to be drafted. These poor unfortunate souls became cannon fodder.

There were no women drafted in those days. All the prime examples portrayed in all sorts of categories, would be a waste and a constant battle of the minds between any superior NCO or officer grade.

WE are the attackers. When’s the last time the Chinese or Russians went 5000 miles and crossed an ocean to attack anyone? They haven’t. How many tens of times has the U.S. crossed an ocean to attack someone since 1945? The warmongers in DC that you seem to support in their proxy wars will implement the draft to keep three forever world conflicts going. This is all about maximizing MIC profits while walking that dangerous fine line between ending civilization making billions on multiple ongoing forever wars.

I propose we start with everyone in our prestigious Ivy League Universities and the Blood Relatives of EVERY Elected Official in this Country.

If Trump declares he will pass a law stating that any draft starts where you suggest, and then proceeds through every Fed.gov employee bove GS15 family, before general public - he will win the election for sure.

We could have drafted ground troops in Taiwan, South Korea, Iran and Ukraine all at the same time.

The Neocons get all excited just thinking about it.

It is of course totally insane.

Talking about Ukraine, the unfortunate thing is that the Ukrainian soldiers are dying so fast, that when new recruits are brought into the fight they are given only days of training rather than the weeks or months required to prepare them properly for war.

What makes our leaders think that even if we do institute a draft, and even if it is broadly supported by the public, that we will have the luxury of time to properly train our recruits before sending them off to slaughter?

“I have finally concluded that war is an unavoidable feature of humanity. I guess I have arrived.”

We live on a vastly overpopulated planet with not only limited resources but dwindling resources and piss poor resource management. War is assured in all of those cases. There simply is not enough resources for 8+ billion to live at even EU middle class standards of living let alone American which is four times higher resource usage than the avg EU person. We could burn up every liquid hydrocarbon, every scrap of coal and still the 8 billion would be cold and hungry in under 50 years time. Thats with only 4 of the 8 billion at EU levels much less time if all 8 suddenly get first world energy and resource access. The number this planet sustains with only 100% sustainable resource use is between one and two billion at most. Yes I am a earth scientist PhD and post doctoral level this is well known and calculated in the community the question has always been how to get the population to a sustainable level without World Wars or a black swan die off. A simple two child policy would work on two generations. The West is already voluntarily well below a reproductive rate of 2.0 every western nation is with some below 0.8 Italy for example. It’s Africa, Latin America and Asia that’s breeding like rabbits.

Let the Democrats espouse bringing back the draft.

We don’t necessarily have to go to war over Taiwan. We could just sever all diplomatic and trade relations with China. Bar all Chinese products and encourage our allies (Australia, the EU, Japan, etc) to do the same. At a stroke, China’s economy would be utterly ruined. There is simply no way to make up losing those huge markets. There are no replacements for them. The Chinese economy would go straight into the toilet and would stay there.

My other problem with “defending Taiwan” - most Taiwanese have no interest in defending themselves.

15% of Taiwanese live in Mainland China for school, business, family, etc...

Their business and government elites all have US or Japanese passports. Many of those with “mainlander” / KMT backgrounds are actually sympathetic to China.

Their army is pitifully small, and even then they can’t meet basic manpower goals. 1/3 of their units exist only on paper. They have reduced conscription to a “social service” function lasting 4 months. A business colleagues’ son just completed his term - home every weekend, and never fired a rifle one time.

Its just not a martial society in the slightest. Nearly all Taiwanese simply want to go along to get along and have zero interest in fighting China, even if invaded.

WWII required a draft and 9-11 didn’t exactly overflow the recruiting offices.
