You're right, that is not the answer to the question.
Well, when you suggested the speed of light might not be a constant, you were challenging the very foundation of Relativity theory. If the speed of light is not a constant, the whole thing falls apart.
“Well, when you suggested the speed of light might not be a constant,”
I have no idea where you are coming from. Please quote my post so I can clear up any misunderstandings.
“The Michelson–Morley experiment tried to prove the existence of the aether, which it failed to do. But it did show that the speed of light was the same no matter how fast and in which direction Earth was moving. So it did sort of provide evidence for (not prove, there is no proof in science) that the speed of light is a constant.”
In hindsight. At that time everyone was focusing on an “ether”. Even up to 1905. Einstein made the breakthrough. Others just provided data from their failed attempts to find their “ether”.
He also wrote some fine novels as well, some of which would make for excellent movies and/or series. Andre Norton is another that seems lost to the ages.
Before then, you’d have no reason to believe there wasn’t an aether. Just like if you lived in 5,000 BC, there’d be no reason to think the earth wasn’t flat. But against our wishes, the laws that govern God’s universe are not always intuitive. Like a Feynman quote: “If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don’t understand quantum mechanics”. Feynman has lots of nice quotes.
“I would rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned.”
Oh, and I call it aether, you call it ether.
“So it did sort of provide evidence for (not prove, there is no proof in science) that the speed of light is a constant.”
Einstein’s breakthrough was his theoretical derivation.
I see where we may have some confusion when reading “the speed of light is a constant”.
The speed of light varies depending on the medium it is traveling through.
Could of sworn that Tesla confirmed the existence of aether as that’s where he was utilizing his energy.
The ‘34 Pierce Arrow demonstration.
The heat of the meat Equals the angle of the dangle provided the Mass of the ass remains Constant 2/too.
“And I still don’t know exactly why.”
We really don’t know. We really don’t know what light is. We only have models that work as needed.
Choose one:
A. Particle Theory
B. Wave Theory
C. Quantum Theory
All three are correct.
“All three are correct.”
And each can be wrong depending on the situation. We had to develop B because A didn’t explain certain behaviors. Similarly we developed C because we were seeing things that neither A nor B could explain.
That was pretty dope for a white guy.
“Yeah well it’s not A or B, where one is right and the other wrong. They’re both right at the same time. “
Electrons. OK.
They are not both right in your example. A in incorrect.
