The hulking Florida teen who brutally pummeled a high school teacher unconscious over his Nintendo Switch last February was sentenced to five years in prison.
Brendan Depa, now 18, threw his head back after Circuit Judge Terence Perkins handed down the punishment on Tuesday evening.
Depa also received 15 years of probation after his release and will be placed in a group home, court records showed.
Depa was charged with felony aggravated battery – bodily harm after he attacked paraprofessional Joan Naydich in a hallway inside Matanzas High School in Palm Coast.

We didn’t have to look when the story first broke out.
If he carries that mentally into prison, he might not be coming out.
I watched the sentencing yesterday on court tv....they couldn’t believe he got 5 years......turned on court tv this morning and they were already questioning whether the judge got the sentencing right.
For anyone that doesn’t know, court tv is pretty left leaning.
Jason Aldean needs to write a song for him. “Try That In A Prison Cell.”
What is a Nintendo switch?
“If he carries that mentally into prison, he might not be coming out”
Having served in my church’s prison ministry for 5 years I had the opportunity to get to understand the state prison system a bit.
One of the facilities we go into is called the “RMC” Reception and Medical Center.
Every new state prison inmate is sent there when first entering the state prison system to get orientated to prison life and for mental and physical evaluation.
I suspect that his mental state will require him to stay at that facility permanently for treatment and so medical personnel can keep a closer eye on him.
However, having said all that, there’s still violence in all prison facilities from time to time.
Basically a video game
A handheld video game device...................
A handheld video game device...................
But I’m what everyone wants to know...will he get to play Nintendo for the next 5+15 years?
I assume we all have the privilege of paying for it?
But I’m sure what everyone wants
to know....
Too much leniency with an attempted murder
You know, if not for the video showing exactly what this kid did and is capable of doing, he’d probably still be walking around free.....even though the trial revealed he has a history of violent outbursts.
The mother requested the judge release him to her.....unbelievable.....she has no idea what a favor that judge did her......I strongly suspect it was only a matter of time before he turned on her as well.
No daddy.........................
“Is it them, again, Yogi?”
Quite right, but we’ve all seen the phenomenon of mothers in denial about their
“good boy” sons.
How is the teacher doing that was attacked?
Just for clarity, he was adopted......the mother is White.
Yep......while single parent upbringing can be fairly successful.....IMO there is absolutely NO substitution for two engaged parents......one of each gender of course.
Too bad his victim wasn’t armed.
With any luck at all, his next target will be armed.
Anyone confronted by this biped has good reason to be in fear of death of grave bodily harm, and to use lethal force in self defense.
