STEINHATCHEE, Fla. – Hurricane Debby made landfall early Monday morning along Florida’s Big Bend, blasting the state with flooding rain, damaging winds and life-threatening storm surge.
The Category 1 storm hit near Steinhatchee about 7 a.m. ET with winds topping 80 mph.
By midweek, the storm is expected to dump extreme amounts of nearly 2 feet of rain on parts of Georgia and South Carolina.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting “potentially historic rainfall” across southeastern Georgia and South Carolina through Friday, causing widespread flash flooding and life-threatening conditions.
The governors of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina have declared a state of emergency and are urging residents to prepare for the multiple impacts the storm will bring.
“I think what’s going to make this much different than what we had with Idalia is it is going to move very slowly once it enters Florida – it’s going to be southern Georgia, northern Florida – and it is just going to drop an inordinate amount of water on the north-central Florida region,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told FOX Weather on Sunday.

Just south of Tampa they got over 14” of rain, plus storm surge.
Just talked to daughter in High Springs, FL (near Gainesville). No power, but they have good generator. She said it’s just a breezy, rainy dal...lol
Amazing. If NautiNurse had posted this article it would have had 800 comments by now. The rest of us, not so much. Talk about the Guild System during the Renaissance.
The problem with this one is its a slow or no movement storm.
While 80 mph winds are plenty, this is going to be more about flooding than anything else.
“it’s just a breezy, rainy day”
Day, is going to be DAYS before it’s over
If it’s one thing I’ve learned about FR, it’s that the pack mentality is alive and well. Lol!
What “guild system”?
Maybe because that thread would be pinged to a (hurricane) ping list?
🙄
As if that’s not enough, our other daughter’s Godparents, retired, are moving back to Northern Illinois and selling their house in the Villages. They already bought a house here and went back to put their place on the market. There they sit presently.
SO, I have the Fox Weather Channel on and I’m keeping tabs on their situations. Hopefully the worst parts of the storm will pass North of them all.
They’ll find some way to blame this on DeSantis.
I’m about 60 miles south of Tampa.
We’ve had about 36 hours of heavy rain.
It’s been blowing towards the front of my house. My bedroom carpet by the front window is wet because the rain dripped in somehow.
My cousin called me this morning from Lutz. He said they just got wind and rain all night and his front yard is flooded. No damage of any kind.
And who owns that “hurricane ping list”?
Anybody we know?
Sum peepoe jes own theyselves dat stuff.
You don’t even live in Florida. So what’s your dog in this fight?
Flooding can cause a lot of damage. Don’t ask me how I know.
I live in Hurricane Country.
Just went through one and still picking up the pieces/mending fences.
Buzz off, and maybe create your own ping list, if those threads trigger you.
Or, you could even ask to be added to that ping list.
🙃
Careful … this is a Florida Only thread 😂😂
👋🏻 FRiend.
Y’all had the horrific flooding and we had Beryl.
NOT fun, either one!
My flooding was several years ago in the middle of winter from a burst pipe in the basement. Not storm related but weather related and we had just moved here. We didn’t know the specific vulnerabilities of this house until we got to experience them firsthand. 🥺 At least we didn’t have summer mud to deal with as we cleaned up.
My whole family is still in Florida, so I have to pay attention. When they have power outages there, I’m the central point of contact for any who have special requests that arise. I think that’s one of the only good things about having someone out of state. It is a bit frustrating but it helps that my wifi works when theirs is out. I can tell them which gas stations are open, have ice and water. 2017 was a really rough year for our family.
This will not be the type of beach vacation they were hoping for. Hopefully it suns up in another day and they can get a few good days in.
He declared a state of emergency back when the storm was a tropical wave with great potential. Turns out to have been the right call ... DeSantis haters on both the left and right may still find a way to bitch about it.
