Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that several counties in Florida have been placed in a state of emergency via an executive order.
The state of emergency includes counties in Southwest Florida, Central Florida, Northeast Florida, the panhandle, and the Big Bend regions.
The system, located over easter Cuba, could form into a tropical depression as it continues its path toward Florida this weekend.
As of the 11 a.m. advisory, it was located about 420 miles southeast of Key West, Florida. It was moving west-northwest at 16 mph with 30 mph winds.

“Could form??”
Could form.
Article does not list the actual counties covered by the state of emergency declaration. It just lists regions of the state. Guess that’s too much to ask from a brain-dead U.S. media.
FL is a great state but all things considered, I think I’ll stay here in NV where the Summer heat is brutal, but at least I won’t have to worry every year if my house will picked up by hurricane winds and be blown down the street.

Nearly all of Florida, minus the Panhandle, it sounds like.
And I imagine the Panhandle will get its share of wind and rain.
Tampa looks like a bullseye.

You expect them to list 54?
“Tampa looks like a bullseye.”
Time to drain the pool, AGAIN!
The highest probability of tropical storm force winds is less than 50. Forecast shown on “windy dot com” (aviation related weather site) is for a bit of wind and a lot of rain.

This may require DeSantis to don his white rubber boots and ward off the hurricane.
Watching while charging battery backups, flashlights, doing laundry, etc. Most likely will post a thread for the 5PM update.
This will be just another storm, especially for us in the inner part of the state - a little wind, a little rain, then clear skies and mild weather...
Since when are they called Tropical Cyclones on east coast?
It’s a little hard to tell from the reports, but better safe than sorry. I’m from NYC but I’ve lived in Florida for about 25 years. I only ignored these warnings the first year I lived here...LOL!
My first exposure to the Florida hurricane hype was Erin in 1995. It was 90 miles offshore and already north of my West Palm Beach latitude and they were still yapping about the risk to our area.
But close calls are kinda fun. You walk around your neighborhood where home owners are ounding away covering windows, or go to the store and everyone is in a chatty, almost jovial mood. The heightened expectation with a slight, sinister aspect reminds me of the combination of Christmas and Halloween.
I don’t think I realized you were from NYC, but yeah, the best way to prepare for these yearly storms is to prepare a little more each year.
