What Did Trump Mean By "I'm Not A Christian" [ Vanity]
Christian Educators Academy ^ | 12/12/23 | Camilla Klein

While the term “Christian” is widely used today to describe followers of Jesus Christ, it is unclear whether the early Christians actually used this term to describe themselves. The word “Christian” only appears three times in the New Testament, and in each instance, it is used by non-Christians to refer to the followers of Jesus.

Then the different recordings have different transcriptions.

My link from Fox News says different.

Why would President Trump speak at a religious gathering and then declare he's not a Christian? It's his Queens accent and a poor recording quality that was transcribed.

He did NOT say, “I’m no Christian”! He said “I’m a Christian.” I just watched the video. You FReepers who hate him -— did you even listen to the video? You’re responsible for every word that proceeds from your mouth (or is written by you). You need to repent and stop lying!

First, I hear and read on more thanone video him saying "I'm not a Christian," which I do not think he is, based upon the definitive source of that title, (Acts 11:26), nor was when I voted for him (never the opposition), neither that most claimed Christians are, to their future horror.

But secondly, that does not equate to being against him being the President (we evangelicals 74-79% voted for GW Bush, McCain, Romney, and 80% for Trump) much less hating him.

Equating anything but affirmation to being that of "hate" is a tactic of the Left.

Yes, transcriptions are different but I hear the word "not' quite clearly, yet that simply does not disqualify him as being President, a civil leader, in competition with the Left to have sold themselves to do evil.

The two issues then are, what does it mean to be a Christian, and is that condition essential for a civil leader.

The redeemed are those who have been spiritually born of the Spirit (Jn. 3:2-7) by effectual, penitent, heart-purifying, regenerating faith (Acts 10:43-47; Acts 15:7-9) in the Divine Son of God sent be the Father to be the Savior of the world, (1 Jn. 4:14) who saves sinners by His sinless shed blood, on His account , rendering them "accepted in the Beloved" (Eph. 1:6; Eph. 2:6-9) - not deserved by any merit of themselves or any church.

And which faith is imputed for righteousness, (Romans 4:5) and is shown in baptism and following the Lord, (Acts 2:38-47; Jn. 10:27, 28) whom they shall go to be with or His return (Phil 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8 [“we”]; Heb. 12:22, 23; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17)

For which converts realize basic yet profound changes in heart and life, correspondent to the description of faithful Biblical converts, (John 10:29; 1 Thessalonians 1:3-10; Hebrews 6:9, 10)

In contrast to those who were never born of the Spirit or who terminally fall away. (Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; Heb. 10:25-39) Glory and thanks be to God.

According to the transcript of that video, Trump called the pastor from Detroit a bastard at about 3:00. I’m thinking that trancript may not be completely accurate.

Yes, but in that video you can hear him say “pastor” slurred as if out of breathe and thus almost as “bastor” which the system rendered transcribed as bastard.

To those of you whose hearing was better than mine, your correction is received and appreciated.

The answer is: Trump said he’s a Christian.

Thank you for your reply and acknowledgement.

Something like this is subjective to one's own personal condition as you mentioned, and was in the realm of fair disagreement as far as I was concerned.

I do appreciate your persistence in double and triple checking. It's what I would have done, too.

Well done, FRiend.

He clearly said “I love you Christians. I’m a Christian.”

He breathed right as he said “I’m”, but there clearly was not an extra word added after “I’m”.

I take the comment to be short for “not a rigidly observing Christian.” Like someone admitting they’re a backslider when it comes to Church, etc.

It sounds like he was clarifying, “My beautiful Christians, I’m a Christian.” Maybe just slurring his words a little to sound like I’m-na-Christian.

Exactly. Nothingburger doesn’t even begin to cover this.

To “reasonisfaith”, I think your hearing is a little off.

President Trump put a breath-stop after “I’m”, before “a Christian”.

You might want to reconsider your post here.

That’s why I did NOT vote for Romney.

He’s a liberal…

His mormonism was secondary to my vote, but I think it’s foundational for his worldview (see my tagline).

Actually I think it’s best to “lock” the thread…. There’s a lot of valuable lessons-learned here.

Thank you.

I was sure for two reasons: I am used to the way he speaks, and I am used to his beliefs and personality. Still, I appreciate the confirmation.

In his speech in Michigan, he commented about how he doesn’t like to go back and correct himself when he makes little mistakes. That also seems to apply when he doesn’t say a word 100 percent clearly.
