Gruesome new details revealed of dog attack on Minnesota boy, 3, who's set to be taken off life support - with breed that mauled him so dangerous they're BANNED elsewhere in the world

Bystanders armed themselves with anything they could to fend off two pit bull mixes as they brought a boy to the verge of death.

A recent court filing disclosed the harrowing detail, as 3-year-old Minnesotan Covil Allen's fate is all but sealed.

The court document also revealed the dogs were not full pit bulls, but a mix between a pit and an American bulldog.

Known as American bullies, the dog's breed boasts especially powerful jaws that inflict more damage than those of any other breed.

This likely proved fatal for Covil, who remains in critical condition. His family has made the difficult decision to donate his organs when they decide to take him off life support, as they said he is not expected to survive. His mom was injured during the July 19 attack as well, but will recover.

'There were adults in the area that started to defend the three-year-old by using hammers and pick axes to get the dogs off the three-year-old,' the filing said following the incident on N. Brooklyn Park Drive.

First responders arrived and gave immediate medical attention to the boy, the filing added - describing how he was subsequently taken by ambulance to a hospital with 'critical' injuries.

Police Inspector Elliot Faust went on to write how the dogs were not only just American bullies, but those of 'the XL variety,'

He noted how 'this breed is banned in the UK,' despite them not being officially recognized as a specific breed.

The child was mauled at a home where the dogs were listed for sale. The mother and the child visited the home intending to buy one of the dogs.

I'm guessing the sale fell through.

Poor child. Never had a chance.

I always cringe when I see people put their babies, toddlers, and kids next to dogs. ANY dog. They are hunting pack animals. They are ALL dangerous. I don’t care how many people say “Oh my dog is so sweet he would never hurt anyone.” I bet this woman thought the same thing about her ghetto ponies.

In before the “it’s the owners, not the breed” tribe.

RIP, sweet little Covil.

People have got to realize how to handle dogs and to ensure they are able to handle the breed. For myself, I know I cannot handle a pitbull or a cane or any other highly aggressive dog, so I am responsible to ensure that the dog I do get I can handle it.

For the record, it is my experience, at least for myself, that a husky-shepherd cross is a great dog to get. The I’ve had had the best qualities of both breeds.

At least make the introductions slow until the dog knows how to behave around a child. However, even then a dog should not be left alone around a child.

They say that you should also have a place where the dog can go, but the child can’t, so the dog has an escape route to protect itself.

Poor child. I’ve always ever owned labrador retrievers, the worst they’ve ever done is jump up on me and try to lick my face. They will chew on just about anything when they’re a pup though.

“ANY dog. They are hunting pack animals. They are ALL dangerous. “

That’s one of the dumbest, most ignorant, posts I’ve read on FR ever.

I don’t care what anyone says, some breeds are more dangerous than others and when there are 2 or more of them together the danger of unprovoked attack goes up exponentially. Anyone with small children is tempting fate to have one of these breeds.

Our daughter had two pits. They started fighting each other, she managed to pull them apart and she ended up in the hospital for two weeks and almost died twice. She put down the older one which broke her heart since the dog had been her emotional support animal for ten years. She still has the other one. Sigh. And yes, they can be sweet and loving. The one that had to be put down lived with us for two months because she had attacked a dog in the apartment complex.

I get what they are saying. Dogs are animals and all have the potential to cause harm. A Chihuahua obviously won’t kill a person as it is small, but they can bite and certainly could harm a small child or a baby. I think that was the point.

The world would be a better place if pitbulls were bred out of existence.

My sister’s dog was smart. Whenever I brought my kids over, he went right behind the sofa and stayed there. He knew there was no upside.
