So CNN really said that about the speech?

Just watched his movie a few hours ago which made hearing about his grandmother and then seeing his 10 year sober mother that much more special.
Good pick Mr. President

The more I learn about JD Vance, the more I think he was a brilliant pick.

Fact is, we need young white males to show up to the polls in November. This demographic is the most excited about Trump but the least likely to actually show up to vote.

Hopefully JD Vance can light a fire under their asses!

Megyn Kelly loves JD (and Trump, now too!) and she did a really heartfelt and interesting segment about him, who she met when his book first came out. She’s right - he is a very unique individual - one of the few like Trump who truly belong in these highest positions of leadership (unlike about 99% of Congress).

It’s the first 10 minutes or so:

Both president and vice-presidential Republican candidates are not life-long politicians like Joe Brandon, or diversity hires like “black” kamalaladingdong. THAT’S what America needs today.

I heard him talk about his book once a few years ago. He struck me as an arrogant, self-satisfied dweeb. Why? Because he was very smug about the fact that he got out of poverty and dysfunction mainly through his own efforts.

Such effort of course should be praised. But as a matter of political economy, you cannot long sustain a republic that offers no opportunity for a secure job and stable family life to people of average or even below average ability and ambition. Superior talent and effort should have a higher reward, but you can't leave the majority with no path forward. Do that and you'll turn most of the country into a ghetto.

Now he sems to have realized that. We're all in this together, and if we don't maintain a society in which ordinary people can be rewarded for playing by the rules and working hard, we're in deep trouble.

Compared to Pence he’s a Prince.

I watched on CSPAN.

Afterward, they had 3 callers — 1 Repub and 2 Dems. All three were pro-Trump/Vance.

The 2 Dems were associated with unions and were glad to see the GOP courting them. Both were very down on Dems and Biden. One said even his Dem friends were preferring Trump.

[I am glad for the Vance pick, too. I do hope Trump makes better picks than he did in ‘16.]

I mean, I think about VP picks of GOPS going back:

Reagan picks Bush - Good politics, but put a political rival as your successor

Bush picks Quayle - clearly not a great pick, but didn’t matter at the time, road a wave to be #3 Reagan term

Dole picks Kemp - great energy and speaker, but Dole himself was dead man walking against Clinton, so it didn’t matter, the entire ticket needed to be different

W picks Cheney - governing pick, but not going to help with voters and Cheney is the father of neocon politics

McCain picks Palin - She was brought to the national stage too soon, the ticket itself was just not equipped to go out against Obama, not a good pick

Romney picks Ryan - Like, why double down on yourself so much? It was a bad choice imo and amplified Romney’s own problems.

Trump picks Pence - Good pick for religious voters/GOPers iffy on Trump, but bad pick once he got in the White House after his upset win, Pence eying his job and leaking day one.

Trump picks JD - Trump can only serve one term here, so he needs the future. Well spoken man, likable. Amazing story. Good pick.

I liked how he laid it to the American “ruling class”. That is what we are fighting - that a ruling class has been created and is willing to be tyrannical to remain in power. He’s unique in naming them that…I like that.

Presentation-wise I’d give him a C+. Big moment, high expectations, I get it. Like Trump, an imperfect public speaker, but he said what needed to be said and he’s a true American son. I remember admiring Obama’s command of speech and that turned out to be a completely worthless and wasted skill. The contrast is stark...

JD has a great sense of humor. When the going gets tough, he will lighten up the situation. That will enable good decisions.

MSDNC talking heads concluded that Vance’s speech was “boring”.

What planet are they on. His speech was very engaging.
