Hacktivists Dump Disney Slack Data
Data Breach Today ^ | July 15, 2024 | Chris Riotta

A hacking group known as NullBulge claimed to have released a vast trove of data for download from internal Disney Slack channels, including unreleased projects, login details and raw images and code.

The apparent hacktivist group - which purports to defend artists from corporations that use their work to train artificial intelligence systems - said Friday it dumped 1.1 tebibytes of files and chat messages belonging to the entertainment and technology giant online. The hack affected Disney's workplace collaboration platform, Slack, which reportedly contained nearly 10,000 channels, in addition to countless messages and attachments.

"Anything we could get our hands on, we downloaded and packaged up," the group said on the social media platform X.

Slack is a messaging and collaboration platform used by many companies, especially those which develop software. But it is also used for general chit chat and company messaging.

Wonder what kind of woke BS will be revealed as the stolen content is reviewed...

DAMN! 1.1 “tebibytes”. That must be a lot of data considering I’ve never heard of that unit of measure!

I would NOT want to read 1.1 terabytes of woke circle jerk.

From what I’ve read so far, you could just go onto a porn website and pretty much get the same content. Although the porn sites have more integrity - they at least have some protocols in place to make sure there are no underage performers.

A “tebibyte” is just another name for a "terabyte" of BINARY data, using the IEC-approved naming convention.

"te" = Tera
"bi" = Binary
"byte" = 8 bits

wiki: A tebibyte (TiB) is a unit of measurement in computers and similar electronic devices. Tebibytes hold 1024 gibibytes (GiB) or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. Some people incorrectly call this number of bytes a terabyte, which is actually one trillion bytes, or 1000 gigabytes (GB).

terabyte = 1000 ^ 4 (that’s 1000 * 1000 * 1000 * 1000 bytes)
tebibyte = 1024 ^ 4

Nah, just a few bits more than a Terabyte. All the "ebi" labels have to do with specifically dealing with multiplying by 1,000 vs. multiplying by 1,024. Hard drive manufacturers stick with 1,000 to make the amount sound like more. RAM manufacturers with 1,024 because of the way chips are inherently designed (powers of 2)

Once upon a time, when only techies used terms like "kilobyte", "megabyte", and "gigabyte" ("terabyte" was unimaginably large back then), they were talking about RAM and hard disk capacity, which was based on a 1024 (2^10) numeric system because everything was done in powers of 2. So: But then the hard disk makers' Sales & Marketing Departments said, "Hey, that's confusing, we don't like math, let's REDEFINE these units to be 1000, 1,000,000, and 1,000,000,000 so that we don't have to deal with complicated numbers. And as a side benefit, we can make the hard drive capacity 7% smaller (cheaper) and still call it a "gigabyte" because We Say So."

And so hard drive manufacturers, one by one, declared that a "gigabyte" was an even 1 billion bytes.... so what about RAM? That still only comes in powers-of-2-sizes. What do we call 1,073,741,824 bytes of RAM?

And thus the "gibibyte" was born -- giga binary byte.

At least, that's the story I know about it....

Exactly. You commented while I was still editing my longer screed.

You said it much more succinctly. :-)

To put that into perspective a TERABYTE is 1000 GIGABYTES.

Disney is starting to spring leaks. I don’t follow it closely enough to have high confidence about this, but I get the sense that the leaking has increased since the board challenge failed. It may be that the sane people at Disney — those who haven’t already jumped ship — are ready to bring down Bob Iger before Iger completely destroys the company.

I’ve never shorted a stock, but I’m almost tempted here.

I won’t do it though because: a) it feels risky and B) investing based on emotion is a bad idea.

Still, I’d love to make money watching Disney go down the drain.

It won't go down the drain unless Deep State allows it to go down the drain.

From 2020, for folks who missed it, and just one example...

Disney Gets $5B Credit Line As Coronavirus Pandemic Hurts Business

After all, who needs customers when you have Deep State lining your pockets with taxpayer cash.

Rounded to decimal...

A tebibyte (TiB) is a measurement unit used in computing to represent 2^44 or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, adhering to the binary system. On the other hand, a terabyte (TB) represents 10^12 or 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, which is grounded in the decimal system. This difference in base calculation stems from their respective uses, with the tebibyte often found in operating systems and the terabyte commonly used in marketing storage devices.

Either way, I’m not reading any of it.

I re-read the message.
These hackers sound like they were insiders.
Once you get past the firewall, security is not as strong.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were part of the Union strike in CA.
