A rope attached to the clew and used to control the setting of a sail in relation to the direction of the wind. The sheet is often passed through a tackle before being attach to fixed points on the deck, or in the case of a barge, to a traveller on the main horse.
clew
One of the lower corners of a square sail, or, on a triangular sail, the corner at the end of the boom.
The buff colored line through the block immediately above the yardarm is the halyard.
The corner of the sail is the clew and the line is the sheet.
