Why do I Hate Onions?

Onions are one of the most commonly used ingredients in cooking, but for some people, they are the bane of their existence. The question of why certain individuals hate onions is a complex one and can be attributed to a variety of reasons.

One of the main reasons why people hate onions is their strong and pungent taste and smell. For individuals with heightened senses, the aroma and flavor of onions can be overwhelming and unpleasant, leading to a strong aversion. Additionally, some people may have a genetic predisposition to dislike the taste of onions, as taste preferences can vary greatly from person to person.

The Texture is Unappealing

Another reason for the dislike of onions is their texture. When raw, onions can have a crunchy and slightly slimy texture that many find unappealing. This texture can be off-putting and make it difficult for some individuals to enjoy dishes that contain onions

I love raw onions almost as much as cooked. My preference is Vidalia or Maui onions, but the rest of the year it’s plain old sweet yellow onions. I love garlic almost as much. I absolutely cannot stand to eat a ham or turkey sandwich or a burger that doesn’t have onions slathered on it.

I’m fine with cooked onions. Raw onions bug me sometimes.

I love pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions as well as Denver omelets (ham, bell peppers, onions and Swiss cheese). Uh-oh, now I’m hungry again. 😖

Burt”s Original Lyrics were..m
“What the world needs now is Onions and Garlic!”
Dionne laughed in his face, and lit a cigarette.
Jackie DeShannon demanded a few changes..
The rest is music history.

Your recipe is perfect except one thing.......

Blue cheese crumbles and raspberries on top for the last one minute in high convection heat.

I just recently tried shallots, they have a more oniony flavor. They don’t cost that much more than the other types.

Never understand why people have an aversion to these vegetables.

Humans have different olfactory responses to certain odors. I've learned over the years to tolerate onions as a flavoring, though I still don't like to eat them.

Garlic and a roadkill skunk smell exactly the same to me.

On the other hand, many people find the smell of durian revolting - but it doesn't really bother me at all.

Wrong. Green peppers stem from new world. Chilies come from the americas —green peppers 🫑 were the work of Europeans to reduce the heat index of said peppers. The end result are bell peppers. Me. I prefer Thai chilies. 🌶️ but all chilies around the world were introduced by either the Spanish or Portuguese

#17: "Onions are the best..and garlic and healthy."

Don't forget Cousin Ramps. In Springtime we are blessed with ramps galore,
far more than I could every use. Some locales even have ramp festivals.

I LOVE cooked or fried onions, but can’t stand un-cooked onions, and there is a simple reason.

Pledging my fraternity in the early 60’s, if I did anything an upper classman didn’t like, I was handed a huge raw Bermuda onion and forced to eat the whole thing raw.

The stench of my breath prevented me from having dates for a week, let along a kiss from a girl. And the taste in my mouth was also horrible for a week. No amount of Listerine or brushing teeth would help.

Stayed with my my whole life. Never forget.

If you don’t like them don’t eat them and quit whining.

I love sweet onions and can't think of a single dinner recipe that doesn't include them. But I do understand people's eversions to certain foods.

I hate anything pickled, sweet or sour pickles, olives, and anyone who puts those damned capers on my plate. Its just not right.

But I don't bitch, I just ask it anyone else wants them and will happily share the offensive culinary monstrosity. I almost always get a taker....sick puppies.

Pretty much the same here.
Onions, garlic, chives, scallions, leeks, & shallots, oh my!
Can’t cook without them.
Other than ice cream, isn’t much that doesn’t go the the extended family.

Around here, they’re $3 or $4 for a few ounces. I always assumed they were milder than regular onions. Right now, Vidalia onions are plentiful. Anymore, I just buy them or other sweet onions.
