Why do I Hate Onions?
Onions are one of the most commonly used ingredients in cooking, but for some people, they are the bane of their existence. The question of why certain individuals hate onions is a complex one and can be attributed to a variety of reasons.
One of the main reasons why people hate onions is their strong and pungent taste and smell. For individuals with heightened senses, the aroma and flavor of onions can be overwhelming and unpleasant, leading to a strong aversion. Additionally, some people may have a genetic predisposition to dislike the taste of onions, as taste preferences can vary greatly from person to person.
The Texture is Unappealing
Another reason for the dislike of onions is their texture. When raw, onions can have a crunchy and slightly slimy texture that many find unappealing. This texture can be off-putting and make it difficult for some individuals to enjoy dishes that contain onions

“Hey Paulie, don’t put too many onions in the sauce!”
“Just three small onions...”
No one cares.
Your likes and dislikes are your own.
Most veggies are relatively innocuous.
Of course Green Peppers are of the devil but everyone knows that. It is even in the Bible. The Lord cursed the ground and thorns, thistles and Green Peppers sprang forth.
Start off on YouTube and search https://jacquespepin.com/. Look up his simple onion sandwich, the favorite of his wife.
Make it and take a bite. Have a glass of Chardonnay or Guwertztraminer around to wash it down.
I can see why Julie is just an internet writer and not a famous chef. A chef that doesn’t like onions? LOL
The problem with onion toppings on pizza is that they’re too slimy. I used to like them on pizza but you have to weigh the good with the bad. Try lots of bell pepper instead.
It’s the Capers you need to watch out for.
I cannot imagine life without onions and garlic. I think onions used to make me cry but I have been immune to that for some time now. I start just about anything with onion and garlic, bell pepper too. I don’t like raw onions too much but I have learned to tolerate them in small portions.
I love onions and garlic.

Ditto. Raw garlic also. Some varieties of sweet onion raw as well.
Sweet Vidalia Onion or Sweet Red Onion on peanut butter and white bread. Try it. You’ll love it.
****************
I eat Vidalia onion sandwiches all the time. But with mayo. Peanut butter sounds interesting. I will try it.
I’ve been teasing my wife for years. She hates onions, yet she loves onion rings.
???????????????????????????
“But they’re fried.”
“So they’re cooked. Yet why don’t you eat caramelized onions, or onions cooked in a stew, or....”
“Nope. Just onion rings.”
Wait until the pizza is done, then apply the mandolin sliced paper thin onions. Not slimy or stringy. Better flavor. I also only add my Asiago, or Romano cheese to the pizza once it is done and out of the oven. Try that. All the old world difference.
I had an uncle who loved to eat raw onions and raw garlic.
It was best to keep a 5 foot distance from him.
I had the dog of my life running my household. She smelled the top pop off that jar of capers, she called in every favor owed. Strangest thing I’ve ever seen.
Why do I hate Brussels sprouts? 🤔
If you’re like I am, they taste bitter to you. Same thing with most cooked greens, except cabbages and bok choy. There was a post on FR not long ago, that said it’s genetic for some people to taste and dislike bitter foods. Probably the same reason liver tastes metallic to me, therefore I can’t stand it.
Maybe that tones down whatever she does not like in them.
“That said, the taquerias around here insist on grilling their steak or chicken with the onions and bell peppers (”fajita” style). All it does is turn the meat into a soggy mess. Grill the meat separately, and add raw onions after.”
But then they’d taste like raw onions instead of grilled :)
“I love onions and garlic.
Never understand why people have an aversion to these vegetables.”
The article you posted gives some clues LOL
Good point.
They're not cooked right.
Mr. mm used to hate Brussel Sprouts.
My recipe is to get fresh ones, cut them in half.
Slice an onion. Chop up some bacon in chunks.
Fry the bacon. Remove from pan and add the Brussel sprouts and fry for 10 mins stirring occasionally. Add the sliced onions at about the 8 minute mark and fry until preferred doneness.
Add the bacon back in, mix well, and serve hot.
