It was certainly better times.
Didn’t The Beach Boys play the Capitol Mall with Ringo Starr on drums?
It’s hard to believe in two years it’s 250 years.
The Semiquincentennial or the Bisesquincentennial which are awkward.
'74 saw Ten Years After, Joe Cocker, Black Oak Arkansas, ARS and Wet Willie.
And it was damned hot that day out on the field. I think.
last concert I can remember at Tampa stadium before the new stadium before the new new stadium was pink Floyd “welcome to the machine”. before that, concerts were a blur. soon after that I became part of the machine. I really miss those days I don’t really remember much of. the old 60’s saying is “if you remember the 60’s you weren’t really there”. the old saying for the 70’s is....well...can’t remember that one either.
I remember my bicentennial quarters
I was at the Willie Nelson 4th outside of Gonzales, Texas.
Estimated attendance in the upwards of 80,000.
The rambunctious festival of ‘76 could have been in part from such a power packed lineup. Willie, Waylon, Kristofferson, Ernest Tubb, Roger Miller, Jerry Jeff Walker, Leon Russell, Ray Wiley Hubbard, George Jones, David Allen Coe, and more.
Dayum you old
I remember that. I even have some memorial quarters. But really? Carte? Comeon man...
I remember a bunch of us kids, at the time, in tank tops and short running around doing crazy stuff and swimming in the dough boy pool, or, in Lake Tahoe (where I grew up). Our parents were just sitting around BBQing and drinking Lucky Lager and we would “get a guzzle” of beer from our pops and uncles. We were all church families. About sundown came out the fire works and we would jump through the smoke and sparks. Good times....
That was a great 4th of July. I had a really cool 1776 Teeshirt, we cooked out and drank beer all day then we took about $500 worth of fireworks out on the old green cove springs bridge and set it on fire. Fortunately we managed to put it out and never had to call the fire dept. My cousin ran and hid in my parents house. Good times! 😆
