Odd how so many grocery stores seem to be “price gouging” themselves out of business..

Must be that excessive profits lead to store closures and a chain’s bankruptcy?

“price gouging”

All those years of arguing about economics got us nothing.

I’m old enough to remember teh ‘Commodity Program’.

Every month a case of foodstuffs would be delivered or you picked it up, depending on circumstances, containing peanut butter, dairy butter, flour, powdered milk, and various other things produced by American farmers and bought by the government........................

Grocery is the most competition sensitive business around. The net profit margin is usually around 1%. So price gouging is probably nonexistent.
The low price at e.g. Aldi is usually because of low food quality, so if he succeeds in point 2, we will be having pretty bad food to eat!
And giving away free food, that’s really bad option!

Marxists believe the capitalist exploiters of laborers gouge with higher prices and thus steal from the downtrodden workers.

All the companies are supposedly to blame.
The fools who try to benefit from being woke corporation CEOs are stupidly thinking the Marxists will reward them.

Now they get blamed for the higher cost of their doing business and coping with supply chain problems, climate change regulations and increasing costs of all raw materials and gas to send merchandise and food by truck or train or plane. Stores are supposed to swallow losses and not raise any prices but stay in business. Notice all the restaurant chains closing hundreds of places in nearly every city and town? They can’t work as informal charities.

Lenin would be proud of the Dems.

It's only a couple months 'til the election.
They can pretend to care about food prices for that long, easy.
Just like they can pretend to care about border security.

I worked for a grocery store chain early in my IT career. Our profit margin was 1.5 to 2 percent. Grocery stores are not ‘price gouging’ anybody Joey. I think YOU have been ever since you took office.

Took a friend shopping the other day.

She bought, milk, eggs, chicken legs, two cans each of tomatoes, corn and green beans, bag of lentils, potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, apples, loaf of bread, jar of peanut butter, a bag of rice and a box of tea. It was over fifty dollars.

Everything was store brand, nothing was premade.

The only way to battle the Biden inflation, is to go back in history and block Biden from running for president back then. Since that’s impossibl3e to go back in time, the Bid4en inflation will remain at around 30% for the items that people use in their daily lives

Or, we can take everything that all democrats own, including properties and bank accounts and automobiles, etc, and then redistribute the value of those things, amongst the non-democrat population. Since it’s Biden and democrats who brought us the inflated prices, they should be the ones to pay for the damage they caused.

Hate to give him any cover, but I do believe there’s price gouging. Grocery prices in Oklahoma are much higher than other areas, and one particular company (Homeland) owns most of the grocery stores here. I wish the FTC would break them up. Even Aldi prices are high, here.

The cost of food is related to energy...to convert the food, package the food, transport the food. Cheaper energy means cheaper food.

The whole inflationary mess (not just now, but in the future as well) could be ended by doing two things: First, stop all government welfare, subsidies, food stamps, and other assorted handouts, permanently, and replace them with private charity. Good old fashioned charity is not inflationary, because it takes a dollar from one pocket and puts it in another; it doesn’t create new dollars out of thin air. It’s also far more efficient because a private, voluntary giver is able to exercise discretion and make sure that their charity only goes to those who are truly needy.

Second, stop government meddling in our energy industry and curtail over regulation in general. These two things, government showering borrowed, unearned dollars onto people, and government over regulation, are solely responsible for out of control inflation.
